Just kidding, but, boy, did I get hit with the negative variance stick on my latest trip.

Example - big count, 2 max bets. A9 and TT v 6. Didn't even consider doubling/splitting as my trip BR was almost depleted (for the first time, ever). Dealer flipped a T, then pulled a 5. This was typical of EVERY big bet.

Over the years, I have learned if you think you are safe on 20 when the indexes (higher than 4 and 6 in these two cases) calling for splitting tens and doubling on A9, the universe will pull a 21 for the dealer to teach you a lesson.

Hang in there, 21! You know the drill. Sometimes your the windshield, sometimes the bug. But in the long run.......:) I know that doesn't make you feel any better right now, though, lol

BJgenius007, you've been infected by the powerful and ever present "selective recollection".
Unless your name is Lieutenant Commander Data or Mr. Spock, we’re all vulnerable to selective memory.
However, as long as we understand that we’re fallible, we can always snap out of the trance.
If we don’t, then we will attribute negative variances to outside factors, such as others at the table,
seat position, etc., in your case the “Universe”.
Not splitting 10’s and not doubling soft 20 as a cover play, well that’s a different story.

Oops! Did I misread your post BJ genius007?
I think he was just trying to make a point. Although there certainly ARE enough people in this world who actually DO believe in such things. ;)

But if you were having a winning streak the signs would be more obvious.

I have had the 21 pulled when I double my max bet for a total of 20 much more often that the statistics say I should.

That is the most heartbreaking situation in the world. But, there are no guarantees in BJ. Except even money.

Just when you think your 20's are good, and maybe, just maybe you're on the road to recouping some of the loss, the dealer does the unthinkable. Wish I could say I haven't seen that before ;)

Only time I have ever split tens. XX vs a 6, max bet out, I pull a five and a six, dealer has a ten in the hole and pulls a 6 to bust. Splitting saved me that time.

"....Few players recall big pots they have won, strange as it seems, but every player can remember with remarkable accuracy the outstanding tough beats of his career." From "Rounders", and even tho it's about poker it still applies.

I've learned that blackjack will take its time in humbling you from time to time no matter how sure you think you are to win a bet. It's enough to leave you sick in the stomach when that happens. I know I've had TCs of +6 before and the dealer pulled 21 on me with 16. All you can do is just forget about it and move on. If I see this happening a lot at the table, sometimes I will just get up and move to another table just for a change of scenery and to take a break. No need to let it affect your head. Forget about the $'s and just play the game. Don't let the game play you.

A+ for the Portal reference, Sonny.
I'm just glad somebody got it. Extra credit to the person who can identify the casino and/or poker player.
