If you're spotted...

If a pit boss has spotted you as a counter, but doesn't do anything about it.... how long do you wait before you go back to that casino?

I don't know if the eye-in-the-sky spotted me, or if it's the pit boss. But I saw the pit boss whisper to the dealer and point to my side of the table.

Obviously, if you are spotted it doesn't always mean an instantaneous backoff — or worse.

I would certainly assume that some time after my departure I will be tagged as persona non grata.

So, s t a y the h * l l a w a y for as long as you can find other opportunities to play.

Am I never to go back again? I was going to wait a month before trying this place again.

Would you try to go back, and only stop going if you get real heat?

Like I said, I think I was spotted by the pit boss, but got no heat that day.

He could have been saying anything. Since you didn't get any heat after that, you are probably safe. Just keep your eyes open the next time you are there. Or you could play it safe and stay away for a little while.

If the boss (or likely, the floor) whispered something to the dealer and pointed, it was very likely something to the effect of, "I forgot to put this guy in the system, do you remember what he bought in for?" or, "this guy's been here for a while, why don't you start paying him in [the next higher-denomination] chips?" Unless the dealer half-shoes you on the next hand or does something else that is clearly a response to what the floor said, than you're probably worrying too much. Why not ask the boss/floor what they were talking about once you leave the table?

And if you weren't barred or even backed off, then why not just go back on any shift where this boss isn't working? Your experience certainly doesn't seem very severe.

Just play on different shifts and try doing hit and runs. Dont stay for any longer for say an hour? Find out what time they change shifts and hit them a couple of hours into each shift.
Generally if your spotted, they are not going to do some type of immediate barring before they have time to determine your level of play. Thats why people have a few cover moves. If they determine your not a big threat, and have a good attitude they usually dont mind an "intelligent blackjack player."

It seems a lot like APs want to keep low. And by keeping low, you hope to keep attention away.

I can't help but think that even an AP that starts acting like they are at a craps table with a bunch of hooting and hollering will lower any heat the casino might bring.

Casinos love winners who announce it to the masses, it brings more players who might not normally play. And in the long run, the casino wins against those players.

So I have a little bit of a hard time not making a show. It's like on the floor marketing for the casino to put on a show.

Both of those methods work. But if you're going to be loud and obnoxious you better have a damn good act because you will bring a lot of attention to yourself!
