Insurance on the 10

If Insurance is a sucker bet for a BS player, why dont casinos allow it against 10s as well? I mean in that situation they would have a much better advantage anyway because theres much fewer Aces than 10s.

I think if they allowed it, people would play it.

If they did, it would probably pay 10 to 1. And I don't think anyone would take it.

Might slow the game down alot too asking for insurance almost every 3rd hand.

Not to mention, like Leon and Geoff said, offering 2-1 would be ridiculous.

Since, roughly, (1/13*2) + (12/13*-1)= -.77 EV

But, I suppose, some would take 45 seconds to scrutinize all the cards on the table and, upon seeing no Aces, would plop their money down

I think if they allowed it, people would play it.

I guess 10-to-1 would be the logical payoff, giving the house a 15% vig. The problem there is, you could probably insure only for 1/10th your bet. The small wagers combined with the frequent slowing down of the game might be poor logistics.

I think of a lot of the insurance taboo is based upon that common thought of always assuiming the dealer has a 10 in the hole. It plays on ploppy logic.

Remember that casinos and almost every employee right up to the guy who owns the casino knows absolutely nothing about expected values. All they know is hold and running costs and what is written in a book about the rules of play.

Here are some things I have seen a house refuse:
-Refuse to allow a player to bet banker and player simultaneously in mini-baccarat.

-Refuse to allow a player to take even money on a blackjack against a dealer up card of a ten.

-Refuse to allow certain craps bets as working on a come out roll. (The quicker the bet is resolved the more money per hour is likly to hit the table).

-Refuse to allow players to play two pokies simultaneously (playing 1 with each hand).

-Refuse to allow people to write down results at games like craps/sic-bo and big 6.
