Seems you are having a hard time with the loss.
Responses are not just aimed at you.

Probably many know their EV but few know their drawdown risk. Seems the drawdown risk is more important to know.
Can you help us out with "drawdown risk?" What's that?

What's the worst swing you guys have taken?

I need a drink...
With 20 to 1 spread, if you split 2 times and double on each, you would lose 120 units in one hand. So 110 units loss is very common.

110 units? Looking at my play log, I have won or lost 110 units or more 61% of the time.

If you can't handle this extremely normal, expected fluctuation, maybe you shouldn't be playing right now?
You should be winning 70% of your sessions not losing big on 61%.

I don't keep close track of swings but with my small spread I think it's about 100 units. I try my best to avoid bad variance. I know it is a matter of time before it catches up with me. I usually walk a winner after a bad swing if I have the time to play out of it. Game selection is the most important thing you can do to improve your chances of not leaving a big loser.

Here's a swing on one hand I had recently:

Big count, 2 x 20 unit bets.
First hand, split 4 times, doubled each.
Second hand, doubled.
Dealer broke - 200 unit win in one round.

Quickly went to cashier, did not pass GO, but collected a bit more than $200. :)

For my paultry $10 a hand minimum that would be $2,000. I can't even imagine winning that much at one time. Well played, sir. Well played. :cool2:

I've had it go the other way, too. Play long enough and you'll see it all and realize the OP's 110 units is just a drop in the bucket of lifetime EV.

It's been a while now so I don't remember exactly the number of hands but I was playing were you could split an unlimited number of hands. I split eights so many times the whole end of the table was covered with my hands. I doubled two hands and got great cards on all but 2 of the hands. All the money I had with me was on the table including the toll money to get home. I had a few hands of 21 out there so I would still get some back even if the dealer hit to 21. The dealer cooperated and busted his stiff. I won all 13 bets, I think maybe less, at once. I guess the quoted poster had 10 bets out so while more dramatic looking it wasn't that much better.

Most I've lost in a night was $110. I guess that would be 11 units since I play on $10 tables. Can you say small time?
I would say you're not even a counter and that was a stop loss figure as virtually everyone on this board who does count has lost that in a single hand.

Worst session loss = loss of 155 units

Worst negative stretch = 5 days of consecutive losses that totaled -311 units......this one hurt bad. It took me many many sessions over 8 days (spread out over a 3 week window) just to recover from this one and get back to where I was before the neg. run.

I have already said in my other posts that I have just begun learning to count. The topic was about biggest loss, so I posted what my largest loss was.

You can get there quicker than you think MEJ. Looking at my log...on only my 7th day as a CC, back when I was still on the $10 units on $10 tables, I won 245 units on one monster shoe.

That's when I made the mistake of thinking that CC'ing was easy money. I got knocked back into reality 2 days later when I dropped 136 units on one shoe.:flame:

Hey, I would take that. Since I am betting small I can realistically only expect to win relatively small at the start. With experience one improves though. Through proper counting ,with any luck at all, the bank roll will grow to something that I have a fighting chance with should things go south. How many units were you max betting on that shoe?

8D game, 82% pen, D any, DAS, LS, RS to 3 hands, NRSA, S17
REKO unbalanced count - Max bet at +6
Spreading $10-$200 but after winning several in a row at max bet, I pressed as high as $275 so in effect it was a 1-27 spread. Count got as high as +12.

Good show. :cool2:

I'll have to do some more practicing the next few days. I just about feel ready to attempt counting at the casino. If I lose ,well, at least it won't be much. Shoot, I would be extatic to win even a couple hundred bucks. I have noticed a change in my thinking. Before I ever started playing blackjack I used to think if I won I would spend that money on something else. Now my thought process is if I win I can use that money to fund the next trip.
