Just how much

I sit here young broke and out here struggling in the midst of a terrible **** up that our government has made, and putting off on the younger generation. With dreams and aspirations of being a successful counter, my reasons for visiting the boards after I have search and put in my 10 application, and wondering how in the **** some off you older guys do it.
I have come to the conclusion that you guys know something we don't when it comes to the game, and wonder how many of you I have sat with at the tables. Guys who can play a 6 deck at 4:30 in the morning asm and know when the black jacks and 10s come out of an asm whatever the count. Controlling it by the cut card, with stacks of blacks and greens steady builiding on the table, and acting like it is aggravating to be there. Telling a young buck like myself that I'im betting at the wrong time, and mysteriously having to go the bathroom whenever I fcuk up the cut. (My vision of CP, somewhere in the Midwest, LOL) Or observing guys while backcounting and watching them spread out as the count begins to descend. Feeling the adrenaline rush.
I mean hell what is it and how do I find the secret out. I have positioned myself in the place to find out, but hell I have the bankroll of that little ant on by balcony, and as well am having trouble finding a dependable source of income. How did you guys do it? Whats your stories? How did you "come up?"
Let me know the secret. Education is ****ed up and requires me to participate in our governments plan to shift the debt to us, so why try and go to school, just to put myself in debt? I know there are some of you who started from nothing and are out off now scouting other territories.
If you read this far you are the type of people who have done what I am talking about and have nothing to do, after a shift of bringing home the bacon. My story may be a rambling, but hey I am broke, with a great eye and skill for counting and various advanced strategies, but helpless with them in a world where us youngin's cant even find employment. And just want to educate my self on how some of you have overcome the obstacles of life, and made it to the other side.

The secret is to be on the right side of the bell curve. Not that I'm old or experieneced.
You have never been on the left side of the curve?

Not so much the big secret, I guess maybe just leads on being a better hustler of the gambling mecca because I know they are here few and in between. In other words for those of you who didn't work for years and save up, or just blessed with a bankroll, how did you build it? And how did you enter into the elite society of players with the true secrets of exploiting games.
As for bell curves, I need to educate myself on this further to understand the statement..Part of the young buckness in me I guess.

You're faced with a Catch-22 situation. No one is going to give up their secrets until you have something to give in return. If I come up with some sort of secret "trick" system, why would I want to create a situation which would just end up killing the goose that laid the golden egg?

Basically, Muppet has the best advice: Just keep breathing & eventually it will happen for you. There's no way to rush it.

The secret is to love life to it's fullest.

Life has it's ups and downs just as in BJ. Once you take the dollar value off everything it becomes much clearer.

Forget about the gov't debt issues, why make yourself crazy over things you have no control over?

Have dreams of being a successful counter as you continue your education. Here is a secret, I know of a handful of kids who had taken student loans, gone as far as getting their masters, and then washed their hands of the debt by filing bankruptcy. Sounds awful right? Almost soumds like corporate America a year ago? Has it hurt them? Maybe in the short term..... but look at it like BJ... you'll become a winner over the long term.

77,

1. dude, get a job, any job.
2. master basic strategy tables for games you play (note 2D, is diff. than 8d)
3. learn a simple count, like hi-lo
4. learn at least the illustrious 18 indicies
5. learn proper betting strategy (units vs. count, spread)
6. play BJ with whatever you can afford to lose, because you will
7. master strategy, counting and learn more indicies - which also can change with the # decks
8. understand what a good game is (penetration, decks, heat, etc)
*** BEWARE: STEPS 2-8 MAY TAKE YOU SEVERAL YEARS ***
9. notice when you begin steadily leaving the table with more than you started with
10. recognize that the amount you won, is directly proportional to your unit size (in other words if you use a $2 unit and won $50, you would've won $500 if you used $20 unit)
11. understand relationships between bankroll, unit size, risk of ruin, EV to determine what you can expect to EARN playing BJ
*** AT THIS POINT, YOU MAY WISH YOU DECIDED TO GO TO SCHOOL INSTEAD ***

every AP has gone through the above "evolution". and it takes time - some more than others - dedication, discipline, and HARD WORK, there really are no secrets as you seem to think.

It is certainly not for everyone - if it were easy, even the PC's would do it

Yeah, most PCs never get past #1.

Play nice, sonny. PC's are our friends. We couldn't play this cat & mouse game without the cat! And most of these 'cats' are fat and lazy and would rather nap than chase.

Thank you all for your replies! I have found some good motivational words. I guess I have to continue to be patient, and continue on my education path. But hell by the time I'm done, the last of the games may well be gone!!:( Oh well at least my job prospects are starting to turn around a little. Waiting on a Sherrifs card now. I will continue to keep you all posted, and look forward to playing with some of you in the future.

Hey, I have a few secrets of my own..I may not be able to track through an ASM in the Midwest, but have found some interesting games here in the desert.

And Muppet, I will never give up!! I will continue to breathe deep everyday.

And I'm sure there will be much better games that take their place. Good games come and go every day. They move around a lot and they often change. For every good game that dies, a better game is born. Don't worry about it, they will all be waiting for you whenever you are ready for them. In the meantime, learn how to recognize them and how to play them. You want to be able to hit the ground running when that bankroll finally comes through.

great advice from Sharky.
i would add one word: Entreprenuer
By all means continue your education, but don't expect it to be a panacea.
Be your own business owner and boss. Rely on nobody (family or corporate America or government ) for your own well-being.
And relish the wisdom that comes with paying dues and growing older ( hopefully with the special LOVE OF YOUR LIFE ). :)
P.S. I started playin this game when I was 49.

“May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.”
Edward Abbey quote
