Late surrender vs an Ace

Does late surrender typically lose all vs a dealer natural. Is this the normal interpretation of this rule? Does the basic strategy engine on this site assume a dealer natural wins all?

I never would of thought 17 would surrender vs an Ace in a H17 game.

Dear Matt,
I think we should believe the experts, though I have not confirmed them. After all, Casino has been thoughly studied.:)

With "late surrender" the player is not given the chance to surrender until after the dealer checks for Blackjack so the answer to your question is "YES"....player loses to dealer natural.

Let me tell you why the play is to surrender 17 vs. dealer Ace. Check out these stats on 'Wizzard of Odds' for a 6 deck, H17 game. These numbers are after dealer has checked for blackjack. Use the other chart to see, before checking for BJ. http://wizardofodds.com/blackjack/bjapx2.html

When the dealer has an Ace, after they check for blackjack, they will only bust 20.13* times out of 100. They will end up with 17, 8.28 times. That means that they will beat you 71.59 times. Base on a flat bet of $10, you would win $201.30, and lose $715.90 for a net loss of $514.60. If you surrender all of the hands, you will only lose $500.
