Learning a new count

#1
I don't want to beat an old horse to death, as this topic has been discussed several times before on here, e.g., http://www.blackjackinfo.com/bb/showthread.php?t=12763, but I have yet to come across a satisfactory answer. I realize this is probably not a question that has a "consensus" answer.

I want to move on from KO to a count better suited for DD and SD games. These are the games I play, in order of frequency:

1) 6D, H17, LS, DAS, 1.5-1.75 pen
2) 2D, H17, DAS, 50-65% (i walk away if 50%)
3) 2D, H17, D10, DAS, nms, 75-85% pen, Lucky Ladies (i walk away if 75%)
4) the occasional trip to Reno for SD action (hopefully!)

The 6D I will continue to wong with KO. Easy.

For the rest, after reading several threads, it seems like Hi-Opt 2 with ASC is the way to go. I especially want something that will work well for Lucky Ladies. But is there an easier way than Hi-Opt 2? What about UBZ, or true-counting KO?

I have a limited BR and I'm dead-set about trying Reno, so I want something with good PE that will work well for Reno and allow me to keep the spreading down.

I know you might be saying, "your DD games are crap, just stick to the wonging," but I really want to go to Reno someday soon and besides I'm getting bored with KO.

I know you do, and perhaps I tend to over-think things at times. I suppose I have this idea that if I'm going to true-count, I should think of how to do it in the most fantastic way possible, but simplicity is a virtue.

#3 is not a great game as they only open it when they're crowded. I usually forget that fact before driving down to play it. Every now and then I get a wonderful dealer who gives fine penetration, as CP might say, so being an optimist, I try to forget how bad the rules are and go after it. But last weekend, those wonderful dealers were few and far between. Most of their dealers give erratic pen and are slow enough to make me want to punch them.

I open 2 boxes (with frequent wongouts), but that still leaves 5 boxes usually filled with the most vicious, smoky, nasty ploppies known to man. There was a young dude on 1st base who looked high on weed and was trying to hit on the middle-aged drunk lady next to him. Well, the lady was a belligerent drunk and was going on and on for a half hour about how much she hated her husband for cheating on her with hookers. At one point, 1st base was so high that he forgot to bet, but was dealt to in error. Drunk lady starts screaming at PB to "give me my money back" even though she pushed on the hand anyway. Shortly thereafter, drunk lady's 300lb friend sits down and tries to take over one of my boxes. F it, I just went home. Lost $50 + gas and basically a whole day of my time.

TKO is extremely easy to use if you know KO well. You can just use the true count chart and "true fudge" the numbers getting almost all the gain with barely any work. That being said, it won't help with double decks near as much as shoe games.

For double deck games i've just made the switch to UBZ II very recently using the OS thread on this site, the UBZ II pamphlet and help from a few people on this site to get everything fine tuned. I think it works great and from all the sims people have run its just about as strong as any level 2 especially if you use "true fudging" as well BUT counting a level 2 is different than level 1. Its not hard to simply count a deck down in a reasonable time but scanning a full table becomes a bit harder than a level 1 as a lot of things don't cancel quite as nicely. You hear people talk about fatigue from counting and it actually will get to you doing a level 2. A level 1 you can count while drinking as much as you want all day long and never lose the count, level 2 you actually have to pay attention (not that its not worth doing but just saying it won't be as simple). I've only been using it for about 2 weeks now and only in the casino once, so it may get a little easier after a while but I feel no matter how easy it becomes very long sessions will still start to grind you down mentally where as with the level 1 fatigue is non-existent.

Wow, we must have been playing the same table! ;) I was the quiet guy staring intently at the cards with the growing stack of chips in front of me.

One time in AC, a drunk southern ploppy lady called the dealer a hussy. Pfft, in my neck of the words, this doesn't mean anything, but I guess the the dealer was southern too, as she was greatly offended by this. Ah free entertainment provided by the ploppies.

What's the general opinion on how UBZ performs at SD?

Hi-Opt II
is the King of Counts, but a very good count to use that performs quite well in shoe games as well as "pitch games" is ZEN.
