...that's the only reason it's ever gotten my business! Good news on the new boat though. I'll be meeting up with a crew for an Argosy session in a few weekends here. Perhaps there'll be another monster roll on the dice tables that night!

It seems to me that if the count was always negative, that means the high cards are coming out. So mathematically I am not sure it is an indicator of cheating. I am also not sure how they would get around changing out the decks (6D) per gaming regulations and they do let the player cut.

Funny though, that both Preston, myself, and others feel something is just not right about that place. (Grand Vic)
 
Can you guys please specify why you thought you were being cheated there? Did the count never go high, or did it always go up at the end of the shoe, or did you see a funny looking dealer?
 
I'll repeat:

"On more than one occasion I have back counted tables. Counts would raise absurdly high. Enough for me to jump in the action. Despite the high counts, small cards were still coming out and dealers were still drawing out. It seemed like A TC of +8 would act like a TC of -8.

At first I just figured it was negative variance.. a bad run of cards.

But this has been the case pretty much every time I've played the shoe games there. "

When I go there I play their double deck game. It's crap but I have figured out a REALLY effective shuffle tracking technique for hand shuffled double deck games and their game is the most exploitable in the area. But they still suck.

As a side note.. Grand Vic is where this happened (copied from another thread):

First off, the only mistake she did that favored the player in anyway was to occasionlly flash her hole card. Not every hand, but she did flash a Q when she had an ace up so I won an insurance bet because of it.

Her mistakes really started to get on my nerves when the guy to my right bet $75 and got a blackjack. Dealer has an Ace up. The player doesn't show he has blackjack, but takes insurance for less instead ($25 insurance bet, $75 regular bet). The dealer has blackjack.

She pays him 2 to 1 on his insurance but takes his original $75 bet... which was actually a push. I leapt out of my chair and spoke up on behalf of the ploppy. The dealer gave me a confused look but I point out the mistake. She is confused by it and it didn't take me half a second to call "FLOOR!"

The pit comes over and he can't figure it out. He is now trying to claim that the guy loses his $75 but wins his $25 insurance bet which yields a $25 loss overall. I protest and say the $75 is a push and the $25 is a win and mention that if he didn't take even money in any way the two hands would have been a push. Of which the gears start to turn.

But he is still confused bythe play and ends up just telling the dealer to give the guy even money, which is $25 more than he would have won had the dealer not made the mistake.

I could tell the pit wasn't amused with my expertise.

Fast forward maybe 10 minutes later and I am no in no way tipping this dealer at this point. She is taking bets on pushes.

Then I had a bet of $75 out. 1 green, 10 red. I win the hand. What does she do? She tries to change out the red for green -- and she ends up leaving me with 4 green putting the rest in her tray. I was suppoed to have 6 green altogether. I call over the floor again. She rolls her eyes at me and the next hand she asks what casino I work at. I say <name of casino> and she then says "I can tell you're a dealer."

What gave me away? The way I count my chips? Clear My hands? Then I realized.. oh yeah.. I'm not a dealer.

This line I found mildlly entertaining. I have never dealt cards in my life outside of a home game. My question is how many mistakes weren't caught which the players never spoke up?

Most of the swing/grave dealers at the other local casinos know who I am. And they appreciate my action as I am ALWAYS tipping. Or laying out tip bets for them. They don't always pay off, but it's the thought that counts.

This is the first night I didn't tip the dealer. I'm a firm believer in karma and paying it forward, but this is the exception. She tried to take tying bets, underpay winning hands, hit players who wanted to stand. It never stopped. If you put a monkey at the table with no training whatever it was about the level I was dealing with.

Blackjack is NOT a hard game. And considering this was in the HIGH ROLLER PIT it makes it even more frustrating. Why is a dealer this weak dealing a game like this?

For the next two shuffles I actually counted out loud just to be an asshole. After about 7 or so hands she asks me what those numbers mean.. I told her I'm just testing her to see if she can still get the hand totals right with a major distraction.
 
I beginning to believe Grand Vic is a dirt casino. I made the trip to Indiana this week mainly driven by the fact that I had $600 in cash coupons to use at GV. Add that to my free food coupon and free night stay, I figured even with the drive I'm already ahead. This was mostly an impulse trip since I had the opportunity to take off from work during the middle of the week, so I didn't call to reserve a room until I was halfway there, just to be told they were completely booked on a Thursday night in the middle of winter! So I called Belterra right away and they had no problem with giving me a free room for the night. I ended up stopping at GV long enough to cash my coupons and eat a free meal before heading down river for the night. I did play a little at GV mostly out of spite, which also turned out well by doubling my $500 buy-in in just one shuffle of the double deck game. I also partook in a nice roll on the craps table in which the shooter made 5 different points which resulted in some nice Firebet payouts.
 
Reasons I feel that Grand Vic is a crappy casino:

1) If you appear under 30 they ID you get through the gate.. no problem. But then they stamp your hand too. Where am I, Chuck E Cheese?

2) I've never been to a casino that you can actually see daylight when sitting at the blackjack table.

3) Every casino in America will have a Huey Lewis and The News song in their playlist. Except Grand Vic. They're too busy playing XM Flight 26 and nothing feels worse than hitting negative variance and then having to hear a crappy song like "Delilah"

4) When cashing out over $2000, the cashiers have to call surveillance.

5) They manually fill out MTL's and CTRs which takes FOREVER.

6) When the cashiers pay you a large payout they have to stop at $2500 and start a new pile. Annoying as hell when you cash out $2750.

7) It seems like there is NEVER anything going on in the poker room... yet it is heavily advertised on their billboards.

8) Whenever I have stayed at a casino hotel it has been fairly upscale. Grand VIc's hotel is about the level of a crappy Days Inn without the continental breakfast.

9) Hyatt basically abandoned the property for a while when they tried to sell it. So they just let it go and it shows. Once they realized they could make money on it they decided to keep it.

10) Weakest casino buffet I have EVER seen.
 
Yep, the buffet there does suck. I forgot I was carded and stamped there. I'm 33 and I don't think I've been carded anywhere else in the last 6 or 7 years.

Of course, it was pretty wild when the boat actually went somewhere :joker:

Poker room is okay on friday and saturday nights. Nothing above 5-10 limit or 1-3 NL, though.

You can see daylight at the Hilton in Vegas, too. But the game's not too hot.

actually it currently has the superior game of the three joints in the area.
