No heat for red chippers. On one occasion, the PB had a great story about how spotters and BPs work. A very nice casino, and the games aren't too bad.

Sure, it's possible to get heat as a red chipper (especially with a very large spread), but the EV you gain is not enough to worry about heat, especially when it's so rare at those levels. However, this becomes bad advice if you plan on moving up to higher levels later on down the road, as the time it will take you to get there will give plenty of casinos plenty of time to peg you as a skilled player. It's a bit of a conundrum, unfortunately.
But the Golden Nugget is worth a stop in, especially during weekdays.

Admittedly it was in July, but I walked through showing the famous old joint to friends.
The games were essentially unplayable.
The most laughable game was poolside.
An atrocious 8 decks, H17, 6/5 on BJ's
I saw no inviting penetration on any tables.

I agree with Flash. There are better games than there. They did have a Super Fun 21 game that I played for awhile and got a couple of chances to double down on my 3rd card, and also had surrender. But....most of the games IMO are sub-standard for a counter to play.

I used to play at the GN every trip to Vegas, but way too many times in the last few years I've gotten really rude dealers.

I played the pool area when it first sopned - and the 8d game was essentially playable with some terrific eye candy. A year later, I played about 3 minutes befre going back to the main casino - Great Eye candy only goes so farFLASH1296 said:

I wasn't aware that the Golden Nugget axed their decent 6D LS games. They used to have some of the better downtown games, save for the obvious 75% DD places. In fact, I'd generally prefer to play those GN games since it was much easier to get a fair amount of money on the felt without the heat of the other places.

if you read travel site reviews that is usually the rub on the GN that they have one check-in clerk and a line out the door. for years we went to the GN and they had a $15 vip check-in upgrade. there was a private room to the right of the entry near the elevators for the tower closest to the casino floor. while it galled me to pay fifteen bucks my ire was tempered when i saw the 40-50 min check in. the one upside was the vip check-in had a refreshment area so before i hit the elevators i would grab a half dozen cranapple drinks to cover my fifteen dollars. Downside was at vip you could never talk your way into a room upgrade where at the main registration you could usually get a bump.shadroch said:

played there last tuesday dd game, decent pen, no heat, only problem was only 2 dd tables and except for a 90 min period when i had table to myself the games were painfully slow, players concealing cards, etc.
