I am a first time poster and new Blackjack player. Of course I have played before, but have only actually studied the game for the past few months. I am ready to start playing and am looking for some tips and advice.

First, let me say I am unfortunately not allowed to play at Foxwoods, so please don't recommend that.

I live in Southern Rhode Island. Is there anywhere else to play BJ then Mohegan Sun? I don't have anything against them, but want to know if there are other options I am unawhere of within a roughly 1 hour drive.

With that out of the way, here are my questions about Mohegan Sun:

1. Are the games the same in all of their different casino rooms (Casino of the Wind, Earth, etc)? I am looking for the lowest limits possible to start with, so no high roller rooms. From reading the other threads it sounds like the minimum ranges from $10-$25. Do they ever have $5 minimum?

2. I read the penetration sucks, I will have to note names of dealers right away who give good penetration.

3. This may be unethical, if so please excuse my ignorance and kindly inform me. Any specific pit bosses I should be aware of that typically give a lot of heat?

4. What are the rules at M.S. (Double after split, hit or stand on S17, Double anything, surrender, etc?) Do these rules vary in the different casinos in M.S. or limits, or are all tables the same?

I've never been to MS, but I'm sure the rules are 6D S17 DAS LS NS10 with NM in the higher limit tables.

You got it correct.
NMS is in HL and in one pit at sky. Usually $25 min.
Haven't seen a $5 table in years, but maybe during the work week you will find one.
Yes pen stinks but both conditions are bad,
ms @ 4-4.5/6 or fw @ 6.5-7/8

If you think conditions at FW stink, what do you consider good conditions, and where?

Good conditions: consistant 5/6 & 7/8
Even some SD, DD, and 4D tables. These are very large casinos where they can easily afford to offer their players more choices.

I will not give details about the better tables because the stores in the area are definitely reading these boards. One store in particular have made changes to the game or shuffle 2-3 times in the past 6 months just a few weeks after something was written about the game.

My opinion is based on the general conditions at both casinos. I walk the tables at all the major stores in CT to find the few tables with better conditions. I found the HL rooms have much better conditions using 6 decks at MGM/FW but at Mo-Sun the conditions only change by dealer, HL or LL the conditions at the same. Mo-sun has some dealers cutting off 2.5. I can't tell you how many times I sat down for a new shuffle, watched them cut 2.5 decks out and walked away.

Run some sims w/ CVCX or cvdata and see for yourself just how much the 1/2d difference in pen effects the game.

I really am not fond of 8deck games, but if there were consistant
7/8 pens I would play them more often.

Had some excellent 5/6 games the past few weeks, but very hard to locate.
Of course it's only my Opinion.

Short "trip" report

Went to M.S. last night to play poker (not ready for BJ yet). As I was leaving, I walked through the Casino of the Winds to check out the BJ tables. There were quite a few Match the dealer tables. It was roughly 3:30am on a Wed morning. I didn't count, but roughly 4-5 $15 min tables, 3-4 $25 min tables and at least one $100 table just in one section. Most had 2-4 players.

Foxwoods is playable, IMO. Not nearly as good as Vegas, but with a decent spread and some Wonging, and "other tricks" it's quite playable. Mohegan is as well in certain circumstances.

I apologize for failing to make that clear.
The error was clearly mine.

I obviously disagree as I grind out a good living at Blackjack.

Table minimums

The previous posts regardingthe table minimums is proving correct. On Thursday there were several $10 min buy-in tables. Last night (Friday) I only saw $25 tables.

Anytime one is offered 1/3% or less, one has a good game... at 1/4% its a great game. I don't play 1/2% games, and 4/10% better have RSA.

Consider that in CT, these three Houses are the only game in town... lucky to get 6 or 8D S17 DA2 DAS LS. It could be worse, like AC, NJ.
