They allow you to insure your blackjack, which is mathematically identical
to even money.
However, most basic strategy players don’t want to push out the extra
chips to insure anything.
Insurance is a lousy bet for the basic strategy player, so the casino
should encourage it.
Not allowing even money and instead offering insurance for the blackjack
discourages basic strategy players from taking this lousy bet, so the
casino loses potential revenue.

Most AC casino's (excluding Borgata) have that same policy. You can insure BJ but not take even money. Never made much sense to me. It's the same thing! Except to the player who is down to his last chip, and he most likely has problems anyway. :laugh:

I played at another store in PA.....it was the same there. When I asked, I was told that's how the rules in the state are. I didn't really get it, but it does work out the same.

last weekend we made run down to the sands, mt airey, and mohegan and we were allowed to take even money at all of them... we were playing in the $10-15 tables with the six deck shoes

Rivers allows even money. I've done it myself when I felt it was right (and been right more than my fair share of times.)

Trump taj mahal and trump marina both make you put up the insurance wager to get even money. At Borgota, you can just say even money please and don't have to actually do the insurance bet. It all works out the same though I think. Just easiler.

Trump properties and Tropicana used to make you bet the insurance bet, rather than take even money. I know Trump Taj Mahal still does, because I had a discussion with a dealer about it recently. I asked why I couldn't just get even money and he said because it was a New Jersey Rule, which I know was BS. I was going to ask how come Borgata does it, but decided there was no value in arguing with him. Haven't played much at Trop this year, so I can't say for sure. I guess they could have changed.

When they were dealing a lot of 6:5 in AC I think that's when they wanted to get the dealers out of the habit of offering even money. Instead of just teaching them it was offered on 3:2 but not 6:5, it was easier to tell them just no even money. I think they had dreams of converting all BJ to 6:5.
