I post this just to point out that all betting strategies have not been identified and validated.
I played at a table last night that had a $25 max bet. A guy sat down next to me and bought in for $400. The dealer gave him all greens and he was betting the max on every hand. After watching me double down on an "eleven", he asked if he could double his bet to get $25 more on the table. I explained that he could, but he would only be able to draw one card.
The next hand, without even looking to see what the dealer's up-card was, he pushed out $25 more. The dealer, I think, had an 8 showing and he had a twelve. He busted and lost the $50 bet. But no matter how simplified I made the explanation of the strategy of doubling down, this guy persisted in doubling every bet. I think the only times he didn't was if he had a "made hand" of 17 or more. The dealer's card played no part in his decision at all.
The irony is that after playing for 2 hours, this guy was actually ahead by a couple of hundred bucks!
