My bankroll's first major hit

Couple of weeks ago my bankroll suffered it's first major hit. Haven't been able to bring myself round to getting back to the casino's since then :(.

My bankroll shrunk by a shocking 120 units when I exchanged cash money for this little goodie :

My first major reward from my AP activities - has kept me occupied and out of the casino's for a while!
(Sorry if this is posted in wrong forum - seemed like the appropriate place to put it)

P.S. pic of mine is in the attachment below.

Shiny, I've only had three major "gifts" out of my bankroll:

- a wedding gift for a friend (an expensive vacuum, yet!)
- a charitable donation
- a new clutch

I know, I know... livin' the dream...

My first gift

My first gift was my first new mobile in six years. Now I get realistic ringtones, yay!

No plans for a third gift yet, but when my friend and I started out we talked about getting a huge flat screen telly. Oi! Is that the sound of eggs hatching?

bankroll hits

I always commit mortal sins by buying things with my bj bank. You aren't suppose to do that but, everyone wants to see something for thier efforts. Don't worry about taking big hits on your br you will work it back up just like everyone else. Sorry for your neg. variance just take break then back to the trenchs. blackchipjim

Starting around 1990

I play to a big bank and around 1990, a very good blackjack year, I decided to no longer increase my bank long term.
Everytime my bank increases 50% the increase was removed and invested. My job and the wife's provided much more than we needed to live an so between what we saved and what I won we invested in single family rental homes.
Though I have taken a big hit on paper in the past 1.5 years, all the houses have mortgages that are small or paid as since 2001 I have taken money from my blackjack bank and used it to either pay down on mortgages or upgrade homes.

That actually sounds like the most reasonable long term financial strategy for a gambler that I've ever heard.

Being I'm a professional guy and I only play medium stakes part-time, I don't keep a dedicated bankroll. All I worry about is my win rate and having a very good chance of finishing my next trip. Win rate is the key for the part-timer.

I think this site is pretty diverse. There are progression players, BS players, recreational counters, serious APs and everything in between. That’s one of the reasons I like this site so much. I’m not a serious player and I rarely have any stories or advice to contribute but I can still talk to and hear about other people at my level. I think that’s why this site is so popular. No matter what level you play at you can find other people like you here…as long as you don’t mind putting up with the occasional sarcastic posts.

As a BS player, I'm happy to have a bankroll at the end of a week. :)

(I measure my wins in terms of $/hr loss, and compare it to other forms of entertainment. It's not a bad form of entertainment, playing BS at minimums, as long as you can stomach the swings)

stashes

Brother you have to learn to stash some of it into a secret place. I win but always hold back on what I really won. I'm not going to admit big wins to my better half because I don't admit big losses. They may understand big wins as money to burn not std deviations. blackchipjim

Any good accountant knows that you always keep three sets of books: One for the shareholders that shows a big profit, one for the IRS that shows a small profit and one for the wife that shows a small loss. A good gambler does the same. He keeps one set for the internet forums that shows a huge profit, one for the wife that shows a small loss and one for the casino that shows a big loss.

A Bit Surprised

It's your money and you can use it when you want or perhaps your woman can!:joker::whip:

No one has brought up that some times are better to take out winnings then others.
