I'm having an argument with a friend telling him that a matchplay coupon for $75 is worth $37.50. He's telling me it's worth $75. Can you please set the record straight for him since he doesn't believe me.

There are generally two different types of match-play coupons - the type that can be used only once, win or lose; and the type that can be used until a loss incurs. So; you're ALSO both RIGHT, if you disregard the house advantage that LG is talking about.

LG, you can't take the house advantage into the equation because it really depends on the game you're using it for. That's like saying $10 in cash is worth less than $10 in the casino because of the house edge.

Since you have to use the matchplay at a casino game, how can it possibly be worth $75 if they take the matchplay coupon away after use since there is no game where you're guaranteed a win.

If it is a single bet coupon it is worth at least $425. You bet coupon and $1000 on Banker and $1500 on player. If Player comes up you win net $500. If Banker comes up you win $1500 less 5% i.e. $1425 i.e. net $425.

Can't you just bet the matchplay coupon on the player at mini-baccarat, and a matching $75 on the bank, so that you will be in essence converting it to either $75 if player wins or $75 less 5% commission if the bank wins?

PS--Should be $75 or -$3.25.

I have a bunch of match plays next month.

I'll sell you a bunch of $75 match plays for 50 bucks each.

You do your thing at mini-bac and let me know how it goes.

This is my point. Not all match play coupons work this way. Some of them are NOT taken away after use, only after a LOSS. If you're winning, you might get to use that same coupon several times, or more. You have to check the details which are printed on the coupon.

Because if the player wins, although you win $75; you also LOSE the $75 cash that you had bet on the bank, therefore netting $0. Unless of course it's one of those multi-use coupons that I mentioned earlier.

I haven't heard of a match play that works that way. That's usually a non-cashable chip, which you can wager until it's lost.

15-20 years ago, it was rare to find the SINGLE-usable coupons. But you're right, nowadays the multi-use coupon is pretty much reserved for the higher rollers, who often consider the other type as an insult. Small wonder that casinos USED to be considered a recession-proof industry.
 
The Casino Royale gives out $5 match play coupons to anyone who wins "Prize Level 1" on the slot machines outside. Playing the slots outside is free. You only want to hit level 1 because the higher levels are worthless free slot play or food coupons. I did it 50 times and each time I bet the coupon and $5 on the don't pass bar in craps and then placing 6 and/or 8. Won about $100 there. One funny thing that happened was that the dice hit my face and bounced back to the table and it showed a seven out but it was declared no roll.
I should have gotten 38 of them at once and bet every number in roulette for a $170 win. If I could do that all day I won't need to count cards anymore.
 
Most even-money MP's (including CR) don't let you place odds bets, like straight-up numbers on roulette. Otherwise, that would be the most +EV bet in the house. If you really want to scrounge, check the parking garage at CR: you'll have no trouble finding a fistful of MPs on busy nights because people toss them all over the ground (CR patrons...).

free slot play is worthless? what????

and free food is worthless? from your posts you seem to be a red/green chipper. For a player at that level free food can be a HUGE expense savings.

The free play at Casino Royale is virtually worthless, as you only win on a jackpot. Like Hooter's, the free play is only redeemable at special slot machines that are set aside specifically for the promotion and wins aren't cashable unless the top jackpot hits. The cheap margarita's are tempting, but overall, the free play isn't worth much.
