New to blackjack + Basic Strategy

hi everyone,

I am new to blackjack. Everything started with my 1st trip to Vegas couple of weeks ago. i went there not with the intention to gamble. however, some friends ended up at the blackjack table, and that was my first experience with blackjack.

in the first time i played, i lost $160 in a couple of minutes...didn't win one single hand...i got mad at that and i went home to my hotel..there, i did some research and learned the basics of BJ. later on i returned to the venetian and with this little i learned i was able to get my $160 back and i ended up the night with a +$600, which i think was quite good for a beginner.

so here is my question, i looked up at different websites and i saw that a couple of them have basic strategies slightly different one from another.
is there a "best one" you guys could recommend me?

i want to practice to my next trip which will be to AC.

thank you guys in advance.

There is no "best one" but "only one" for every set of rules. The two most popular ones are S17 and H17. Don't play crappy games like you can only double on 9,10,11 or you can't double after split.

The best game is S17, DAS (double after split), DA2 (double on any 2). You only need to memorize Basic Strategy table for this game. Casino has roughly 0.40% edge on S17 BJ. If you have to play H17 game (lower table limit so it is more affordable to beginners, casino has roughly 0.80% edge on H17), you only need to memorize 6 different entries.

S17 Basic Strategy table card can be bought at casino gift shop.

H17 (All entries are the same except these six):

11 v A: double
A,7 v 2: double
A,8 v 6: double

8,8 v A: surrender
17 v A: surrender
15 v A: surrender

I believe this is partially incorrect. Whether you hit or stand or double or surrender not only depends on whether it's H17 or S17 or the rules, but also the # of decks. The .8% amount quoted is a little high for the vast majority of H17 games. instead you'll find most of them to be in the .65% range or thereabout. I also advise you NOT to buy strategy cards from gift shops in the casino as they are often wrong. Instead go to the WOO's website at http://www.wizardofodds.com and print one out from there.

I think your right about .8% might be a tad high. But the H17 differences look right to me (I'm thinking for 4 or more decks)?

I'm not taking into account the 3 surrender decisions, as I don't think you'll find a game in AC where you can surrender AND its H17.

Also-the basic strategy for a 6deck shoe game is a bit different than for doulbe deck or single deck blackjack. Good cards.:joker:

Single deck BJ BS table is slightly different. But the game is rare and often pays 6:5, thus beginners not counting should avoid.

Also note I have a typo on the last entry.
