Took a trip out to the old sink hole with the bf, after convincing him he will have a good time. He did. At laughing at me for losing almost all my bankroll. **** tank of a day. Now he thinks I suck, and I think I suck and now I barely have anything to prove otherwise. Thought I would share my lack of progress with the good players. Read you all had a great Bash. Congrats on all :) You took all the mojo with you so there was none left for I. I lost: Bad. :mad: Count wasn't even shitty though. Downer. Joking about you stealing the mojo, I know it is skill and I am still near skill deficient.
 
Days like that do happen. Doesn't necessarily mean your skills were what was lacking although it would never hurt to practice more and make sure you have it down. The only worrying thing is you said you lost most of your bankroll in one sitting. Sounds like overbetting your bankroll, unless you're playing on a replenishable one.

Agree with this. If it's replenishable then that's fine. If it's not, learn from the experience, decide how you got into a 'gamble' mode, recall how you felt, and use this to improve yourself for the future.

I have found, especially with my online poker career, there are people out there that you just cannot prove things to. They have something set in their mind and it's incredibly hard to change. I have parents like them, and it's caused me a lot of stress because something I love to do, I cannot share with them or talk about because the interest is just not shared and the stories go misunderstood, etc. And I just keep the subject to a minimum. I hope you have more success then I.

This is one reason why the Bash was great, being around similar minded people and being able to convey stories and points and they go appreciated.

My advice on when I've been in a similar situation after an awful trip. I practice more, I go to my BJ table and deal out a few shoes while practicing counting or whatever skill I'm working on in particular, whether that be better deck estimation, etc.

I encourage you to use this disappointing trip as a means to motivate you to push yourself harder and harder. It's easy to just go and play again, but really take the time to practice more and more.

Practice...Practice...Practice.

Thank ya for taking the time to look at my post of poorness. It really isnt a fill them back up fund real fast cause it was my college grad. money ::i got from my fam, lol:: Good idea ey? I really do appreciate your warm replies and have been practicing at home, while being picked at. Thats the hardest part, u just cant win in my house. But I ignore him and all and focus. I am just sad. Over bet, that is probably what I did. Who could tell I just was hurtin out there. Good counts still mean bad hands? Practice practice practice, thankx Marty and Death, don't lose faith in me, I promise to keep workin, this one doesnt let things beat her. Yet. Lol. I am sad, icecream helps :p

Ouch. Sorry for the loss. As DC said, you were most likely overbetting your bankroll. It is indeed possible to lose in the highest of counts and if you are betting big, you need enough of a BR in order to absorb those losing streak that will occur, no matter how good you are. Heck, even CAA has a losing weekend once in a blue moon :p Rebuild you BR, play a strong game, you will eventually come out on top :)
 
I wouldn't have brought the SO until your BR was significantly ahead of where you started in the beginning, so that you would still have a cushion in case of a losing outing (i.e., "Well, we lost tonight, but I'm still up $2k since I started"), but too late for that now. On these outings, I would point out to the SO how high the count is for the really high-count rounds. Even though you might wind up with 16 v T, the SO will see all the paint on the layout, which should be somewhat convincing, regardless of the actual outcome of the hand.

For better service, please answer Zengrifter's questions: How big a BR did you have, and what was your max bet? This information will help us criticize you more accurately and efficiently.

Whoa, gf.

To me, the classic case of wondering "Do I suck" or "Was I unlucky?" (and, if so, "how" unlucky.)

You seem, to me, to have arrived at the conclusion that it is your "skill level" that sucks when the only thing that might possibly "suck" is your inability to determine whether or to what extent, your "skill level" may suck or not.

BTW, dump the jerk boyfriend. Immediately. Without a second thought. Ever. That's even a bigger problem than what I just said. What are u even thinking? A guy who only knows to laugh at your misfortune like you are stupid or something?

I don't care whether you are the worst,stupidest, counter on earth since time began, he's worse than that.

Explain it to me, if you choose to, how you can put up with him?

None of my business, obviously. But, really. What an absolute colossal jerk.

Youre right but I wanted him to be there through it all, start to finish. I enjoy the companionship. But yes, in hind sight, I should have waited. So I could show the fluctuation. It is like a lose lose. My BR was kinda like this, I had 5 grand from grad. so I said I would use it all for the BR but only played like I had half, so 2,500 was my BR that I played by so in case a total bust I would have a back up amount. Also in hind site, I would have used it all. BECAUSE if I thought about it I could have had been able to bet higher. But I bet high like I would with 5000 but played with 2500. Such a stupid mistake. Ive been doing a lot of research- I did the math, I over bet for my BR size by quite a bit.

I guess this is the sad realization that I made a stupid mistake. Something has to change. I made bad choices, :( thats the worst

I have hope that maybe he will change and see that I am going to get better, I am new and just learning it all. I donno how or why I put up with the making fun of me. It does hurt, someway I overlook the faults in his actions, focus on what makes me smile about him. Although now that I see people don't laugh at you when you mess up I am starting to see that he is being very harsh and judgmental. And people aren't like that. you guys understand and haven't laughed even at my dumb mistakes. I guess I never realized that is how he needs to be. .. the more I read that, the more I feel even more stupid. :sad:
 
Sometimes I kept winning and got the idea that it would last forever. Then a loss came and knocked me back to reality. The key is to figure out something different after each loss. I am still learning and improving and getting ready for my next visit.

Failure can be the mother of success.

Very uplifting and makes me feel better. Thank you. I always learn from past failures. The other day at the casino definitely fit into the fail bucket
 
Sometimes new players (including me) tend to forget the small advantage we have even at high TC. I think the advantage at TC 4 is about 3%. Even then, we still have a 48.5% chance of losing.

You know this counting and betting stuff is hard enough when you start and having a magpie on the fence can really mess with your head. Do yourself a big favor and go by yourself if you need company which you don't bring your game. I play by best when I'm by myself with no interuptions no lunch breaks or "how's it going" taps on the shoulder. Play your game and base your decisions on the information you have. If your boyfriend is a distraction don't go with him, this is serious bizness missy so go it alone. I love my wife but she at times distracts me so I go it alone alot more than with her.

I'm gonna say this and some will say I'm wrong. But I'm going to say it anyway. There comes a time when you are playing (even with advantage :eek:), you should just quit playing. There are days you will get hammered even if you know the next card. Sometimes you have to just get up and go have some fun, the games will still be there when you get back. It's better to save the BR for another day or later in the day, when your'e getting 9's on those 12s instead of 10s. :)

P.S. My wife is the same as your BF... I leave her at home.

I couldn't quite follow the BR explanation (you sized your bets based on a $5k BR, but then went to the casino with $2.5k?), but no matter--it does sound like you way overbet. Put it this way: regardless of Kelly or any other numbers, if a single-day loss is big enough to (1) make you depressed, or (2) jeopardize your future ability to play, then you are betting too much. Losses should cause irritation, not depression. This irritation should lead to more intense study and work. After every major loss of my career, I worked twice as hard on numbers research to improve my edge for the next session, to reduce the chance of future irritation.

With the $5k (or with the $2.5k remaining), you should wong as much as possible. Backcount and enter games at good counts, and walk away when the count is bad. If there are not enough tables to do this, then you should at least take frequent bathroom breaks to avoid playing through negative shoes. You can't afford to take swings on negative counts.

You might also consider working with another counter in your area, if there are any. You would feel the support and camaraderie that you are now missing, and probably also realize faster what weaknesses you have in your game. (Be aware that partnering with another counter probably would cause additional friction with your SO, which has thus far gone as I unfortunately predicted--with his belittling you out of a need to maintain his own mental superiority over you. I think I won the pool--ChaCHING!)

Remember also this life lesson: money is the most easily replaced thing (with bad boyfriends being a close second!).

I am with you 100%;)

Do something else, like have a couple Margaritas and enjoy the scenery:cool:

Then come back after a break and hope the Floor Supervisor is not drilling holes into you with his stare:eek: :grin:
