Not on the strip/not downtown

I play Tunica regularly, but have not been to Vegas in years. My wife and I are going the week after Christmas. There are a lot of threads here about strip casinos and downtown casinos, but very little on other casinos. Cheapovegas.com has good things to say, for instance, about Sam's Town--decent hotel, great rates, and good blackjack games. Anyone every stayed and/or played at any of these other casinos? Thanks for your input.

Sams Town is pretty nice. good food, great buffet. Have not played BJ there in a few years. The Boulder Strip, which is where Sams Town is, caters more to the Nevada/Arizona visitors than the NY/Cali crowd. Sams Town has a huge RV Park attached to it. It's about twenty minutes from the strip, but they do have shuttle buses to get you both to the strip and to downtown.
It's a few block walk to The Cannery and Longhorn. Both have decent BJ.

Pick up an issue of CBJN at bj21.com and that will list all the games at all the casinos in town.
Week after Christmas is New Years, so the CBJN will be outdated.
If I was staying on The Boulder Strip, my choice would be The Cannery.

The rooms at Sams Town are okay, as are there games. They have what I consider a decent double deck game. I like that they have a couple of places to eat. The East side Cannery has a decent double deck game also. Would I spend a week at Sams Town, no....but one or two night is fine. Last time I was there I played red to really light green and they ended up giving me a casino rate and I've been getting room comp offers ever since.

Good luck!

There is a 2 dollar craps table at Jokers Wild on Boulder Highway also. It has ten time odds but is only open from 9 am till about midnight. If you like to throw the bones.

Sign up for on line for specials

Even if you haven't been to Vegas in years, the online specials are excellent. MGM stores will respond favorably. The Orleans will do well also. You will find it rewarding. Google up the casino and there will always be a place for signing up for on line deals.
Sounds like a great trip. Best to you.
