What advantage is it,to the house,to use a DD shoe with the cards dealt up?It seems to me that its aiding the players,not the house.
What am I missing here?

The only advantage to the house is that it is less likely that the dealers will flash a hole card. You are right in that with the cards exposed as they are, players have more time to examine (and count) them.
