There is about 25 ft of boardwalk near entrance to Caesars that feels relatively safe during the day.
The north end of the boardwalk has become quite dangerous over the last few months. I've been going to AC about 4 times a year for past 10 or 12 years and it is scarier now than I ever remember seeing it. I stayed at Taj Mahal a few weeks ago and never really felt safe, day or night, outside or in and I am a pretty big, menacing looking guy. And then on top of it, as if the crappy games, and constant presence of aggressive hookers and muggers isn't enough........I saw a mouse run right across top of a bank of video poker machines one night.
That's pretty funny, a rodent infestation suits those stores well.
Most of the security problems I've run into in AC have involved the extreme ends of the Boardwalk, I would suspect it's due to their proximity to the non-casino areas of town that are not as heavily patrolled. The Boardwalk near the Taj Mahal also has an area that is not well lit and is usually harboring some dirtbags. Another funny thing is the indoor walkway between Showboat and Taj Mahal- there are a few feet of it that are not exposed to any cameras and you will often find a bum living there.
As disturbing as some of these stories are it isn't that fearsome an environment for an AP who uses good judgment. Just avoiding: drugs, whores, hustles, and socializing with non-AP's will preempt a lot of troubles. So many people end up being victimized in the course of getting involved with something stupid. Also walk quickly and deliberately and be aware of where you are parked.
Another thing I thought about, and this applies to me, is that some of us use alcohol and pretend to be drunk when playing, and appearing to be drunk and carrying a lot of money is a good way to make yourself a target. This is something I should probably modify when in AC.
