Anecdotal, but at one casino I was visiting recently, I was chatting up the dealers as I always do. There weren't many folks around, so the pit boss was mostly hanging around my table. I didn't get the sense that he was watching my play as much as he was just trying to be around where the people were. As things went, I ended up chatting a lot with him too while playing.
A few times when I'd have a hand that I could go either way with, I'd be coy and ask his opinion on it. Normally he'd say one thing or the other, and I'd act on his advice seeing that it would have been a coin toss for me anyway. A few times when his eyes hadn't been on the cards, though, when asked, he'd respond with phrases like, "I don't know what cards have come out" or "I don't know what's left in the deck." He also made references to "you guys" (directed at me) and how he wonders how we have "patience to make money this way." It goes without saying I never did acknowledge what he was obviously alluding to, but it made me kind of uncomfortable nonetheless. The thought did cross my mind that he was trying to figure out whether I was counting or not, but I really can't imagine a scenario in which I respond with acknowledgement before he shouts, "Ha! Got you!" and gives me the boot.
I'm obviously still fairly new to all of this, so I'm just as curious as OP; is this normal in some places? Is this some kind of trap, or do some pit personnel just not give a crap about red and green chip APs?
