Ploppy hit a hard 20!

I saw this ploppy hit a hard 20 today. Dealer showed a 10. He was dealt a 2 and 3, hit and got a 3, then the next 4 cards were deuces, then a 4 (making a 20). He hit that 20, guess what card he got...

The dealer shouted "hitting hard 20" and the pit boss came to watch. The pit boss asked the ploppy "are you sure" and he said that he was feeling lucky today. Everyone at the table asked him to stay. The dealer had a 4 in the hole, drew a 3 and made a 17. There was no casino promotion for a 9-card-charlie so hitting an 8 card 20 was dumb. But I thought the pit boss should have comped him a free meal on his next visit at least.
I've never seen a 9 card 21.
The count was low and I was wonged out, but after all those low cards came out, the true count became +4 so I placed 2 $100 bets.

He doubled down a pair of aces and got a 9, stayed on soft 17 vs 7, hit a 16 vs 2 and got a five, split fives and the dealer busted, doubled down an 8 vs 6 and the dealer busted. But hitting a hard 20 takes the cake!

Dealer had a 4 in the hole for 14 if I read the post right. Marked cards or a psychic gambler? Maybe he should have doubled that hard 20.:laugh: Could he have been eating cards? Was he spreading a lot? I've seen ploppies get lucky but they always seem to push their luck to long.

I saw a guy always splitting tens. Doubling on stiffs, even hard 16 once. For about 30 minutes he could do no wrong but then it caught up with him big time. Lost it all back in 5 minutes.

Sometimes seems like people playing like idiots always can make plays like that work. It all catches up with them in the long run.

He made a quick score and left. I should have asked him to play poker with me so that I would get his winnings instead of the house.

It looked like he was using a positive progression, pressing his winnings sometimes.

When he hit his 20 it's not like he didn't know the total because he was reminded several times that he had an 8 card 20. But it was entertaining when the dealer pulled out that ace when he hit 20.

We just seem to remember the times when people hit/double 20 and an ace comes out much more often than when another card comes out.

I like to think that people who hit/double hard 20s know something we don't...it helps to preserve my faith in humanity.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. My question was directed toward the OP. I'm assuming the game had to be at least a DD because the ploppy caught 5 deuces in the 9 card 21.

It was an 8 deck game.

Perhaps casinos can offer a new bet. If you have a hard 20, hit it and get an ace you win 10 times your bet. Double down your hard 20, get an ace and win 20 times your bet. This would be great for ploppies who love to gamble. And it would give us a big advantage if the deck is ace-rich (the count is usually high when the deck is ace rich, so we would have a large bet). If 2 decks have been played and no aces came out, with this rule variation, it would be +EV to double down a hard 20.

I once hit a hard 20. It was just I and a ploppy at the table and I backbet him for a hefty bet. He got two face cards against a six and split. Count was actually around 3.5 so no big deal EV wise but it pained me putting up the extra bet only to push. So I get a little mad and a few hands later he is back betting me, I get 20 vs a face and hit, hoping to bust and punish him for splitting those tens when i had a really big bet riding on his hand..


Pull the ace, of course.
