have been playing in nearby casino for about six months and i have been learning hi and lo counting for about 3 months... and i have lot of things that i am not too sure of!

FIRST, if the count is high. lets just say its + 12 and i have 10 and 2 (total=12) against dealer face card (10). should i hit or stand. i understand that i will probably burst if i hit it since the deck is rich of high card and i could suspect that the dealer would have 20 too!

SeCond, If i have two face cards and the dealer six for the face card! should i split it! since the dealer would probably burst and the count is +12.. should i split????

i understand as the count is high i should not stand often and hit less. but what happened if the dealer has 9/10 against my 12 or 13 shld i hit or stand?? help plz:mad::mad:

High counts don't mean you'll get 10's noticably more. At a true count of 0, you'll be dealt 10's about 31% of the time. At a true count of +5, you'll be dealt 10's about 35% of the time. If you can tell the difference between the two, congratulations.

You have to believe you have the advantage, or keep track of 10's over a very, very long period of time.

Running count or true count? But it makes no difference here

When asking questions based upon a count, we will take this generally as the true count especially when the amount of decks left is not mentioned.
So, you have an extremely high count, with many 10s and aces left but you also may have a decent amount of 7,8,9's left if you are using hi-lo.
Overall, you are an underdog against that dealer 10 with your 12 but if you are counting then you should learn some indices. If you check Wong's indice charts you will find that there is no count under +20 where you would stay on 12 vs 7-Ace. Translated that means you are better off (still the underdog) hitting.

Splitting 10,10 vs dealer 6 is correct with a true count of over +4. When splitting 10's though there are other considerations besides it being the right play. You must be concerned with the amount of attention this move will create. Generally, I will split the 10's only if I plan to leave the casino very shortly and am playing unrated.

in a case like this i would buy a book on the subject. most authors do a decent job of explaining index departures, why there are about 18 or so that everyone should know, why things like 12 v 10 aren't worth remembering as IHATE17 pointed out (because counts that high don't come along ever). the play stand on 12 v 10 in a +20 count probably comes around once in 1,000,000,000 hands (+/- a few orders of magnitude ;) so don't learn it.

it would be better to learn the I18, understand how close these departures are as a function of TC, and understand which are the money makers. again any decent book on HiLo will spell this out nicely, in plain language, backed with math so that you will internalize it and believe it without question.

learn the I18 first. by that point, you'll know how to find the next 10-20-30 or so important indices, and you'll also know if it is worth your while to learn them... if you're a pro, yes, and you'll need probably 30 more. if you're a part-timer, then it is really up to you and what you are trying to get out of the game.

thx guys! lol.. i know my basic strategy well.. its just that i m not too sure what to do when the count is high! -_-
The most important thing to do is to increase your bet proportional to your bankroll and risk tolerance. Play variations are much less important.
