For purposes of this poll, bankroll is defined as an amount of cash (or asset readily convertible to cash) that the player has set aside for the sole purpose of playing Blackjack. For bankrolls that support more than Blackjack, indicate only that portion that is permanently earmarked for Blackjack, even where RoRs appear comparable.

This poll is dedicated to Psyduck, my comrade and mentor at advantage play, who reminded me that there is more to life than time at the tables.

Here's the poll (anonymous, of course):

1) How much cash on hand do you keep? ___________________
2) Where in your house do you keep it? ___________________
3) What is your address?
4) Do you own a gun? ___________________
5) If the answer to the previous question
was yes, at what time of day do you
leave the house? (Church, shopping, etc..) __________________
6) Do you have a dog? ___________________
7) Burgalar alarm? ___________________

Would it be helpful if I also included savings bonds, diamonds, gold coins, trash silver, stamp collection, and other collectibles? These are readily convertible to cash and I wouldn't want to skew the results of your survey. Thank you.

guess i can't vote cause i have a mixed bag of AP stuff going on, but nothing specific as far as the total bankroll.
the ole imaginary bankroll thing.
well but anyway i do use a imaginary figure for ROR calculations and optimal bet pie in the sky stuff for blackjack stuff.
should i vote that amount?

The first selection is 0 (no specified amount is set aside), or you could use the amount of your overall bankroll that you are willing to lose at blackjack if it comes to that.

Too arbitrary and hypothetical.

I suggest a new poll with the phrasing: How much are you willing to bet on a one-shot coin flip where you know you have a 50.5% chance of winning, with no heat, taxes, or other repercussions.

Then multiply by 100 to get the Kelly equivalent.

But that's about the size of it. I mean, that's what we do.

But it is interesting to see how well funded many of our member are. I'm assuming some of the large bankrolls involve team play, where there is a good chance of winning some serious money even after expenses.

I know if I had that kind of money, I have said in the past, I would be looking to open a small business, not play blackjack--but then, I am a player of limited talent. I imagine the right team leader could win a lot more than my return on investment in a small business venture.

Hey, welcome Mewtwo!

We need all the psychic power in the casino.
I'm still harnessing my power. I may be a Mewtwo, but as far as this particular set of skills I am at a rather low level. It will come in due time if I stay here long enough, I'm sure!

That has always been MY dream also. However:

In 1989 I invested $150K of blackjack winnings in a small business venture. It went belly-up within a year. In January of 2000 I invested $50K in the stock market. A couple of months later it was worth about $2000. In '05 I put a down payment of $100K on a $400,000 house in Las Vegas. It's now worth about $325K.

I guess when it comes to money making decisions; I'm just someone who will always be trapped in THIS business.

P.S. I'm NOT proud of this......

That is pretty rough man.
But you did stick with it on trying those investments that have been proven to have good return...you just hit a bad beat...then like 3 more...3 more very very bad beats
