Preferential shuffling = Cheating

So as long as the house knows the shoe has a player edge and directs a shuffle because the shoe favors the player then it is PS. I think most would say it is not PS if the house is unaware of the count and directs a shuffle based only on bet increases. In my scenario above the pit is on the phone and knows the count.

Do they really change their whole dealer rotation just to get an early shuffle, which might be too late by the time the new dealer gets there? Why not just back you off?

I have had places change their dealer rotation as a counter measure. Not to bring a dealer in to pref shuffle so much as too bring a very fast dealer in. That is a common early "counter measure". And of course the funny thing about that, is most counters have no problem keeping up and they are actually doing us a favor. :)

But really that "benefit" of that back fired, attempted counter measure is short lived. The bottom line is if a casino is doing this, then your play has gone outside of their comfort level and they will move on to more extreme counter-measures. You are better off to finish out that shoe and move on and re-evaluate the how to better stay within their comfort level if you intend to achieve any kind of longevity at this store.

I think that when the TC gets really high and people are spreading their bets some casino pit bosses might say “OK. That’s enough of that shoe. Send in a new dealer.” I don’t think the house has to shuffle every time the player gets an edge for it to be PS. It usually only happens when the TC is really high regardless of whether or not I’m winning or losing. I think it would be ignorant to think that a pit boss has never sent in a new dealer to break up a good shoe. I think it’s common practice at some casinos.

I never seen it happen on a six deck shoe. The new dealer comes in and might burn a card, but that is it. On two deck games they almost always shuffle when a new dealer comes in. A few places might hand off the cards.

I know of a large locals casino chain in Vegas that accounts for most of the good DD in town that hands the cards off on a dealer change.
