Can someone explain what the seventh column which is designated "cut" means. In CBJN it just says "The column labeled 'cut' shows the number of decks yet unseen when the dealer is undecided on whether to shuffle or deal another round. For games with a 'cut card' to determine the shuffle point, 'decks unseen' is the number of cards behind the cut card plus the number of burned card unseen, divided by 52." What exactly does that mean and what is a good number for DD games?

It means what it says. Where the dealer places the card signifying "shuffle time"
e.g. .5 means ½ of a deck is cut off, 1.5 means 1½ decks are cut out of play before the 1st hand is dealt.

A "good" cut for DD depends on the rules in effect.

If H17 with DAS ~ OR ~ S17 with NDAS you want > 60%

If S17 with DAS > 50% suffices.

50% suffices? Are you serious? You want AT LEAST 60-65 to be worth your while without some big spread. Even with S17.

So if I'm using the red seven count with a bet spread of 6-1 in a DD game with DAS, H17, DAT and resplitting aces up to four times whats a good value for the cut number to be?

I would play a 50% DD game heads up only.

There's a "rule of eleven" for DD games:
Max # of players = 11 - pen

For example, pen 1.0, one player
pen 0.9, two players
pen 0.8, three players
and so on
