question for shuffle trackers

i practice shuffle tracking at home, with regular decks. some people say that casino cards are thicker/thinner. is this true and does it matter?
in all my decks a stack of 13 cards is 4mm thick, 26 8mm etc
should i get casino decks instead?:confused:
 
Different brands of cards will be slightly different sizes. The cheaper cards will be significantly different than higher quality cards. The cheaper cards, like Bicycle and various other generic brands, often use cheaper paper and/or worse coating so they can be much thicker. Most of the casino brands (Gemaco, Bee, Paulson, etc.) are pretty consistent. The casino cards will also start to swell and warp somewhat as they get used. It’s best to practice on a few different decks to get a feel for their differences.

Card Thicknesses

I have found "Gemaco" to be the thinnest and "Aristocrat" to be the thickest. Between those two, a complete stack of six decks will vary in total height by about 15 cards. All others fall somewhere in between.

how do you deal with that?
how do you recognice a gemaco from an aristocrat deck when playing? they all look the same to me!

Trial and error my friend. Go to the casino and practice 10-20 cuts. Note how far off you are on each cut. Then keep practicing until you can get it right. Don't start betting on your cuts until you can perform them accurately in the casino. A lot of your practice will have to be done in live games at the casinos.

I remember years ago getting used casino cards with a hole punched in the center. Do they still offer (give or sell) those?
 
I find that i can tell within a couple of shoes how the thickness of the cards has affected the game. I've practiced extensivly with a lot of different thicknesses of card and i find that having done that i can be fairly accurate after just getting a look at a standing pack a couple of times. Don't get me wrong, i wouldn't play a cuts game till i'd tested myself a few times, but for shuffle tracking i find that i can be accurate to approximately 3 cards. It just comes with experience.

You can still buy decks of used (canceled) playing cards in the gift shop of most casinos. They're usually pretty cheap. I've also found a bunch at the local 99 cent stores. You can often find them in bulk on eBay as well.

thanks. ok, i'll go buy some new decks right away. Maybee you can check up what deck brand a casino is using before you go there?
