Question

I'm newbie here to this forum & BLACKJACK.

I've read the book "The worlds greatest blackjack book"
So I am familiar with the Hi-Opt1, which is similar to I
guess Hi-Lo. Although the book has some differences.
So does anyone know if this is still good reading material?
Or is it outdated.

Anyway I am practicing myself counting now, I can go
through the deck counting card by card. But I never
actually played BJ before, so trying to add those plus
counting is getting difficult, so I am just trying to master
that. Any other advice or good reading material on this
forum you can link me to, would be great.

After switching from Hi-Lo to Hi-Opt1, I can confidently say Hi-Opt1 is much better if you can also do ace side count. At home, I play software with Hi Lo assistance while mentally I count using Hi-Opt1 to compare the two. I found out that people lose big bets in this situation: true count is extremely high because there are high number of aces in the remaining deck but tens are in mediocre number. In other words, you probably want to determine the bet size solely on tens in the deck then enhance the bet size up to 50% more if ace count is also high. I also count using Hi Opt2 and Omega 2, although the level 2 systems are superior, you can lose the tiny edge if you make a few mistakes.

The only thing I disagree with the book you mention is the spread. This is what I do on the shoe game:

TC +1: 2x or 3x.
TC +2: 4x or 5x.
TC +3: 6x or 8x.
TC +4: 10x
TC +5: 14x
TC +6: 18x
TC +7 or higher: 20x or table max. If you play table max, you better leave table when the shoe is over.

One more thing, if you find a dealer is not generous on the penetration, leave the table immediately. A counter's success depends on how deep the cut is.
