So ... if he gave you a green chip, saying "I could use some red", you'd choose to not hear what he said ?
If he was being a jerk and I didn't value longevity there... maybe. I probably wouldn't do anything so brazen. But it wasn't like he suggested I tipped it before he gave it to me. He just gave it to me.

However I would be under no legal obligation to give him red if he gave me a green is my point.

then how else does a dealer bust in a high TC? isn't that the whole point of straight counting? placing a big bet because the chances of the dealer busting, or you getting a great hand increases?

ploppy or AP, we all love tens, when we, the AP splits and re splits tens, we are hogging them all. of course, BJ is not a team sport, at least in the big city casinos.
My thought is if there is a high count, and the dealer is showing 5-6, I want as much money and as many hands on the table as I can. Splitting 10's doesn't change the count, the next card does.

That doesn't matter, he physically gave me the chip, therefore it is mine. At this point he can merely suggest that I place it as a bet for the dealer.

Flash, if I gave you a $10 bill and proceeded to tell you to give it to a panhandler, would you feel any obligation to do so?
If someone gave me ten bucks and told me to give it to a panhandler, I would give it back. Same w/ the guy who tossed you the red to tip the dealer. I would give it back, or go ahead and bet it for the dealer, and explain I tip after a few winning hands or when I leave the table. The way you responded would piss a lot of people off, including the dealer. I always like to play at a friendly table, after all, it is still a game. There is always an right and wrong way to handle situations, I think yours was wrong. I heard an old man tell a loud mouth fan at a ball game once, "At any ball game, party, family reunion, or puplic gathering, there is always one guy who never knows when to shut-up, says the wrong things, or offendes other people. If you don't see that person, you're probably that guy"

I certainly would have handled things diffrently, had this gentleman and the guy sitting next to him not shown me a severe level of disrespect on more than a couple of plays I made.

Was it the right thing to do? Probably not. But I had no desire to be pushed around by the "tipping police." People who try to bully other players into tipping make me sick! :flame: One time, nice young kid, aged 18 or so, is playing with $20 at a $5 table. A surly middle aged man rudely suggested that he tip a red chip after winning $10 or so. He goes into this rant on how if someone didn't tip him in his line of work (airport shuttle driver or some such) he would make them see the error of their ways.

The kid, new to the casino, had a dear in the headlights look. Normally I ignore these situations, but I just could not help but intervene on the nice young man's behalf. "this guy is minding his own business, obviously new to blackjack and you're giving him a ----ing hard time because he didn't know he was supposed to tip half his profits. Lay off him, dude."

Fortunately, the guy shut up. But my point being, nothing stirs me up like the tip police. There are some players out there that can be very heavy handed about it, and I will not tolerate it.
