I think it depends on what you mean by "works".
As BS is not count dependent,it will be as effective on a CSM as on any game. But all BS,by itself,does is allow you to lose at a slower pace.In that sense,BS does not "work" at all.

Basic strategy, by definition, is the best way to play against the CSM. With a standard game, which is not shuffled after every hand, basic strategy is the best way to play every hand on average, but isn't necessarily correct at any specific time.
That is, sometimes you should play differently than basic strategy based on the remaining deck composition. That never happens when you are playing against a continuous shuffler (with a few exceptions caused by the handful of cards visible on the table.)
So, rest assured, basic strategy is ideally suited for CSMs. That is, if you must play against these awful things.

However, there have been a few people who have managed to "track" certain cards through the machines (aces and clumps), but this is not a simple thing, and I believe was only possible on old school machines that hadn't been perfected yet.
But dont try to beat CSMs these days, because you won't.

Basic Stratege is based on the first 3 cards out of the deck (Your 2 cards and the dealers up card). As stated in another post, on a non CSM game your chance to win goes up and down as the cards come out. On a CSM game Basic Stategy is the only way to play. You do not need to consider those variations on BS that occur when the count goes up or down.

you really need to go to reno.. every casino here has single deck, and double deck games. speaking of single deck games i was playing the 1$ table at the bonanza and everytime the count got +3 or higher (hi/lo count) the dealer would beat the entire table.. i still ended up leaving ahead, but not by much.. better to win a little then to lose alot.

I guess Im confused. How does the casino using automatic shufflers disable you from counting the cards?? Everytime the cards are shuffled dont you start back at a count of zero?? Please write me some details about this topic because Im unsure about it. Thanks
Regular automatic shufflers don't do anything to stop card counters. But, there are new continuous shuffle machines where the discards are immediately put back into the machine. The used cards may resurface as soon as the next hand.
Many counters like automatic shufflers (ASMs?) because there is no downtime for shuffling. However, continous shufflers (CSMs) are another matter entirely.

Where in California are you?
I play both hand shuffled and ASM games in So Cal all the time. If you are in So Cal, you are going to the wrong casinos.
