Software tachistoscopes

Just wondering if anyone knows of any software-based tachistoscopes that one can program to display images instead of words (as all the software-based ones that I've found do). Not sure if this belongs in this subforum, but it seems appropriate given the obvious implication. Thanks!

I'd imagine it would be easy to do this in Powerpoint, though the sequence would be predictable. I think CVBJ might have a similar feature.

Only one that I know of

I've used one called Memorize-It by a company called Side 8 Software. It allows you to import images (including photographs) and use them as flashcards in the T-scope program. It was a fun way to pass the time, but I don't think it's going to do what you want it to.

Exhibit CAA talks about them and says their usefulness is more folklore than anything else, and per the book, JG doesn't know anyone who actually trained with one.

ACEreader makes a software version that I believe you can use images or text or webpages or whatever... I've never used it but it sounds like what you might want.. link below.

25 or 30 years ago I think it was Gamblers Book club used to sell a device that was kind of like a rectangular tube with a slide at the end. You would look down the tube and drop cards into the slide and they would fall past the end of the tube. Everyone had a good laugh about this device at the time, and I don't know anyone who actually used it.

So the general consensus is that this approach isn't really worth the effort? I'm pretty quick visually, as it is; I just thought this would be an interesting way to practice. I haven't used the holecard feature in CVBJ at all, and I'm not booted in Windows right now. How useful is that?

CVBJ Full Table Drills do this. A table full of cards is displayed. You control how long the image is displayed and then how long you have after that to translate and count the images before entering the count.

Duh. But the exercises are similar and probably useful.

Indeed, the drill was built on the concept of a tachistoscope. Of course the main game will also flash hole cards if instructed.

Get a deck of cards and white out the indexes (the numbers), and practice counting just based on the pips.

Casino Vérité also an option to remove the numbers, during play and drills. But for a really tough game, it also has an option to wipe out everything on the card and just display card mnemonics to practice key card memorization.

I don't, but as suggested earlier, whiting out or cutting the corners off of a deck of cards will do the trick. Just deal a normal game to yourself while keeping the count using cards that don't have an index on them.
