Solo or blend in

I am excited about a trip to Wendover in mid Feb. Thanks for the idea.

I hate not being able to double after the split as that is one of my favorite plays and I also hate dealer hitting soft 17 but I can live with that.

I can get up and in for 3 nites for only $139.

You can get better play during the week or after 2 at night but would I be better off trying to kind of blend in with the crowd. I alway seems to get spotted as a counter and get alot of attention but I figure if I am just one guy with a table of people that are losing some money maybe the heat wont be so bad.

I dont mind sharing the table if I can pump my five up to fifty on a good count.

I wonder if you are almost better on a full table because the crowd will eat all the bad cards on negative counts. If you always leave for the mens room on negative counts with one or two others at the table it becomes a little obvious.

You will get worse pen during the weekend playing full tables in Wendover. The weekends are packed in Wendover. I never have recieved heat during the weekend only on a slow weekday. If you play from $5-50 at the nugget you might get shuffled up on no matter how crowded it is.

We're talking single deck, right? problem with lots of players at the table is that you'll only get a couple of rounds per deck, and that will just throw your counting performance in the crapper.

My own hunch is that a crowded casino floor, in general, is good because it keeps surveillance and the pit busy, but you never want a crowded table (maybe one other person is okay).

If you're wearing a t-shirt that says "Ask me what the TC is" then I recommend playing short sessions, moving to different shops and playing different shifts, not using a players card, and restricting play at the place you're staying (well, at least until you've checked out of the hotel). Get a feel for how much you get lit up in Wendover first before you get more blatant.

I am just fine with 6 decks actually and feel comfortable with it.

I know it against all rules but I have played long enough that I can count decent when I am drinking and sometimes that provides cover.

Even playing half way drunk is no problem for me actually.

If you are playing alone then you can often get the dealer to shuffle just by walking a few steps away from the table as though you were going to leave. You can then return to a fresh deck. As long as you have some good reasons for your action it can seem normal.

In a SD game you can often just sit out a hand in negative counts. With 2 other people at the table you’ll only be getting 2-3 rounds anyway so sitting out 1 hand is often all you need to make it to the shuffle. Even so, if you are a shoe player then you should know 10-20 different reasons to leave the table during a negative shoe anyway. Take a phone call. Check your pager. Check a football score. Hunt down a cocktail waitress. Check on your wife. Check another table. Pretend to have lost something. Look for a friend. Go to the ATM. Go to your room/restaurant/pool/show/whatever. Yadda, yadda, yadda. The bathroom excuse is such a cliché.

Also, SD games can be great for backcounting!

You'll enjoy good games in Wendover.

You never, ever want to try to play SD with more than 3 hands in the game. The optimum number is 2. Thus with a $5 minimum bet, you're going to have to be very selective in your choice of playing times to avoid crowded conditions.

Jackpot is about 90 minutes north on the Idaho border and also provides some good games at the $5 level.
