Some questions

Ok, I'm new to counting and I have a few questions-
What is deck penetration, and how is it applied?
When counting, do you keep a running count overall for all the decks or not?
Which cards do you count?
At a typical casino blackjack table, are all cards "heads up", or are some of them turned later?
Where can I find when to bet for the Hi-Lo system (is it 12, 13...)?
Any answers would be appreciated.
Sincerely,

I am quite new to counting also, infact I have not set foot in a casino trying to count yet but I believe I can help with some of your questions.

Deck penetration:
When the dealer places his cut card in the deck, the amount of cards to be played with is the % figure you see people use. so 80% pen in a 6 deck shoe is when he cuts one deck from the end.

The higher then "pen" the closer you get to having a true count at the end of the shoe.

Your questions are all very well answered in the Blackjack school on this site, but as a quick response.

"When counting, do you keep a running count overall for all the decks or not?
Which cards do you count? "

Hi-Lo system -
2, 3, 4, 5, 6 are low cards assigned +1
7, 8, 9 are neutrol cards assigned 0 (or ignored)
10, J, Q, K, Ace are assinged -1

The running count is only used to convert to the true count.

Running count divided by the number of decks remaining is the true count.
eg: 4 decks left, running count of +4 means the true count is +1

"At a typical casino blackjack table, are all cards "heads up", or are some of them turned later?"

Depending on what country you are playing in, "double down" cards are sometimes face down untill after the dealer has played his hand. Also the dealer has his hole card, except in europe.

Hope this helps although as I said, I am a newbie too!
