Bankroll management matters more than you think. I know mediocre poker players who are wealthy because they grind it out, never playing above their heads, and they have financial sense.
Never overbet, never go on tilt, or you won't have a bankroll. Keep your expenses down. If you're spending more than 10% of your EV on expenses, you're not doing it right. Learn how to use comps, be frugal, and don't waste your damn money. We don't have enough of an edge to play around with luxuries.
Also, you need to be properly bankrolled. If you don't have at least $5k, you're probably going to be stuck back-counting. Do it. If you want to play the good shoe games, you're probably going to need $20k+. Don't play over your head because those monkeys don't always come out when we want them to.
