Why is single deck blackjack so much better than a shoe? Is it just because it's easier to count cards?

That's not a stupid question at all.
It is not at all obvious at first why single deck blackjack would be better than six deck blackjack. After all, the ratio of each rank of card is the same, right?

That's true before any cards are dealt, but after that, things are different. You'll get more blackjacks in single deck, and you'll be more successful on your double downs as well.
