Suggested books?

Hello,

I am fairly new to blackjack, and have been studying basic strategy for a while. Now, I think I am solid enough to graduate into card-counting. In your opinion, which books should I buy?

My local bookstore only has one book on the subject, which is; Get the Edge at Blackjack, by John May. Any opinions on this book?

Thanks in advance. :p

You can pass on GTE@BJ. The single best book on the subject is Blackbelt in BJ by Arnold Snyder. Another important starter book is Knockout BJ by Fuchs and Vancura. zg

Everyone has their favorites. Mine is Kevin Blackwood's "Play Blackjack Like the Pros." I carry his book along with the "Blackjack 6-7-8 Strategy Cards" with me every time I travel to Vegas or Atlantic City. Having the attention span of a bag of rice, I refer to both frequently. Both are available on this website, as are the aforementioned books recommended in previous posts.

Just like my day job, I have accumulated a small collection of books on Blacklack. I find it beneficial to have a small reference library for investing, gambling, boating or any subject I have an interest in.

Snyder's book is great

but I wish he spent more time discussing his Zen count. He devotes a scant 5 pages to it. I know that the material in Red 7 and Hi-Lo lite are the building blocks for the Zen and he didn't want to rehash the information but still, I would have preferred the book to have more pages devoted to counting specifically rather than subjects like shuffle tracking, team play, betting strategies, et cetera.

I second blackjack bluebook II

the bluebook is my first and only book i have bought. Although it apparently isnt a "a list" book. I think it is very good for a beginner. The author has several different methods of play so you can take your game as far as you want. I like the unbalanced kiss count. I have went to the casino a couple times since reading this. Im practicing the stage II kiss count. First time i went i made $200, and last night i quit after three hours and i was up $112. Im actually going to try to supplement my income playing blackjack. My goal is to make about 400/wk. The games in my area are very good, and they dont look for card counters (at least i dont think they do) and you can use a bet spread of 1-10 pretty easy. Last year i lost like $5000. This book has completely changed me, and i feel like im playing a totally different game from before. Just my 2cents

While its not on the A-List, the Blue Book is A-OK. Given your intention to play serious BJ, get both Blackbelt and BJ Attack NEXT, SOON! zg

I have read almost all the books mentioned in these previous post, They are all good reads that will help you greatly, and is money well spent.
The best advice I can give you is to simply click on to the books and software at this site and purchase your book from here, I think all the books recommended on these previous post are avalible, and two of which I bought at the local book store is priced 40% less than I paid. There are a lot of books you need to avoid, our site adminastrator approves all books made avalible on this site, so this will make your decision easier. As you may have already figured out, most serious BJ players have read multiple books, and I am certain you will as well over time.

Don't limit what you read. Read it all. It's true that some have worthless and misinformed ideas, but it is still worth your time. You can often glean good ideas for bad information. I won't name names, but I read a really bad book on blackjack that seemed to go against everything else I had ever read, but by reading it I was exposed to a different view point and his book ironically strengthened my belief in everything he spoke against.

BJ Book

I would suggest that you start with Blackjack Bluebook II. (or Knockout BJ)
I also have all the books mentioned and Get the Edge In Blackjack and BJ Attack are way too deep for a new player.
