Surrendering - Other Player's Reaction

Same way in Northern NV in the few SD games that offer surrender. It's just such a powerful rule I can't pass it up. One reason is that the cameras seeing a dealer pick up a player's cards and then hand him cheques could look like an improper pay because there's no hand signal for surrender out there (only in AZ have I seen a hand signal for surrender) so if the camera sees the PC walk over and monitor the play he knows it's cool.

If you think you might be getting heat for surrendering it might help to learn all the index surrender plays, and risk-averse so you will use them more often. Unlikely anyone in the casino but the AP's knows there is a time to surrender 14 vs. 9.
After I surrender and everyone moans, I watch the next card come out, which would have broke me 6 out of 7 times, and say "50% back is better then 100% loss" and then put the chips back in the box.
Hitting 12 v4 gets the same response from the players until after the rounds over and they all won because I took the dealers 7 and she broke.

For surrender I pull my hands back away from the table, and not use any signal. There is no confusion for the dealer. If she didn't hear me the first time she'll asks again for my decision. If your playing against a fast dealer who plays your hands for you, hits without your signal, and you'll be fighting with the pit and it's not worth the attention.

Session at the local casino Friday night - again, bemusement at my surrenders - however, a number of players thought it was a good strategy.

Unfortunately, they typically misused it. No wonder casinos will offer surrender.

Surrender gives other players an excuse to blame you for their loses. This is
the one basic strategy move you can use that can make you a very hated player, by the dealer and the other players. Do not doubt that things can get ugly over surrender.

The dealer hates it because it is more work for him, her, they HATE it. I always keep my bets even so as to make it simpler and quicker for the dealer to negotiate.

When other players comment about it just say "It IS basic strategy", say nothing more. It is never smart to get into an argument at the table, let others accost you, and they will, ignore it. I have been savaged at the table over the use of surrender, and I am hated by many ploppys for using it. I have learned over time to just bite my tongue rather than throw down at the BJ table.;) Although I will target players I do not like, for any reason, and make moves to drive them wild, maybe I will give them a wink, that is all.:)

Be careful.

Last time I played these 18 year old african american ladies at the table were obviously very annoyed with my use of surrender... I got 15 v T twice in a row and surrendered. "why you do dat? play your hand!" I was going to comment how I didn't want to bust and lose like she did with her 16 v T, but bit my lip.

I quickly grew tired of this. So in two hands, I split 10's, got 20 and soft 21, and caused the rest of the table to lose since I was at 3rd base and took the bust card. Next hand, I hit my 12 v 6 and busted... and again took the bust card and made the whole table lose as the dealer pulled a 20. It was worth the $5 loss to clear the table.

Yes, be very careful. My last trip I got into a standing square-off with a guy who insulted me. Now that's some cover! He was the perfect guy to square off with: same age and size as me thus it looked like a fair fight but if you looked closely his arms were about half the circumference as mine, so if he were to throw a punch I'd do just fine. Fighting, AP style.

Also I had an encounter with a group of people who didn't like my play, and I was winning big, and they started claiming that my money was really their money that I stole from them. Be very, very careful when street people start using verbiage like you stole from them or you owe them, because that's how they rationalize robbing you.

Was playing at Mohegan Sun a while ago and surrendered 16 vs dealer 10. I was getting along well with the woman next to me and the dealer (they may have been friends). But they both looked at me like I was crazy, and the dealer said, "Why are you surrendering? The only reason the casino offers it is because they make money offering it." I said nothing. Real reason they offer it, of course, is because they need to compete with Foxwoods right down the road.

They do make money on it. Haven't you seen fools surrender 14 v 7, etc? Very few people know correct BS, surrender included.
I see ploppies surrender 14 v 7 all the time. A player said "well, you have my 7, so I'd better surrender." Theres 23 more 7's in the shoe!

Know this is off topic of the original thread, but which casinos on the strip offer surrender?

I want to have some fun annoying ploppies! Although, how anyone could consider losing half a bet fun I don't know!
