Switching To Multiple Spots At +3

I'm curious about switching over to playing two or three hands, once the count gets good. I can certainly see why that's a big advantage, but isn't it a tip off that you're counting? Is there anything you say or do as cover in this situation?

First off, it isn't easy to do in these covid times. More than half the casinos in my rotation now have plexiglass dividers between players, which means that very often when you sit down you only have access to one single spot, sometimes two depending on how they have partitioned things off.

But, back in pre-covid times (which hopefully some day we will be in again), as 21forme said this was a big "tell" in Vegas. I am not sure if this was a bigger "tell" in Vegas than other places, or Vegas just seemed to let you know they didn't appreciate it more than other locations.

But the way it works is that shortly after you switch to multiple hands a pit dude will come over and start flipping through the discard tray looking to see if many small cards came out just before you spread to multiple hands. Not exactly subtle.

If surveillance saw you switch to 2 hands every time TC rises to +3, what will be their conclusion? You can only sell when you lose two hands at a roll then act "frustrated" and switch to two hands.

Super useful info, thank you guys. Well, if there is a low minimum... maybe it would be best to just play two hands throughout. Then the only major tell is that you up your bet.

Play solo and spread to several hands off the top so as to eat cards. When the count escalates, drop to two holes. If it gets super hot, then play only one hole. Thank me later!

In theory that is great but that is not a viable strategy for a lot of places. Here in Las Vegas, many casinos have a rule that you must bet 2 x minimum when playing 2 spots and either 3 or 4 x minimum when playing 3 spots.

So @ $25 table starting out playing 3 spots, you would be required to wager $100 per spot. That is $300 on the felt during minimal bet situations. So when the count escalates and gets "super hot" and you drop to 1 spot, you are going to need to wager $3000 for a 1-10 spread. Few players, especially the newer players on this forum have the bankroll to be playing and betting that and if they did, $3000 max bets is going to draw attention almost anywhere.

You can actually use this 2x minimum wager and 3, 4 x minimum wager rule against them, but in a more traditional way.

Say start out playing 1 spot of $25 and as the count grows you "act" pissed off after losing a hand and throw out chips in 2 or 3 spots, saying something about changing the cards. When you are informed that you have to wager multiple on the 2 or 3 spots, this rule has actually created a casino mandated spread for you.

However this type of thing isn't something you can use over and over if you play the same casinos or even rotation of casinos. Won't take much to catch on. You will likely be flat bet to 1 spot after a while.

Howdy bjarg. Still trying to fight the good fight. Minimally active at the moment, trying to keep casino visits to a minimum, but hoping things get back to normal for all of us soon. Hope you are doing well.
