System differences

Im currently using Uston simple +/- system, 2,8,9 are valued a 0, 10-A at -1 and 3-7 at +1, I convert my running to true to the nearest half deck (I practiced this alot and have a very good eye for the discount rack) and deviate from basic according to full use of the numbers matrix (I spent a lot of time memorizing every number on the chart, I found out later in an 8 deck game with 1.5 decks cut off some of the plays with higher numbers almost never come up like standing on 16 vs the dealers 7 at plus 6, but I feel good about knowing all the numbers anyway and usually review the flashcards weekly to keep fresh. I bet according to a 5% element of ruin chart betting with my given pct advantage over the house based on my bankroll and dividing the bankroll by the given number of units required to maintain a 5% element of ruin with each bet based on the chart below, then I round off the actual betting amounts to keep it simple. I generally dont recalculate my betting stratgey during play but after each session, unless Im getting killed, when I will reduce or if Im wilnning I will bet more aggressivley. I will increase my overall betting by 15% when spreading to two hands and 20 to 25% when spreading to 3.

So this is what I do, its become very simple for me after about 600 hours of play in the casino and I would like to go up a level in my play. I've started learning the Uston APC card values and am getting my time down to 30 to 40 seconds counting down the deck, I know I have a way to go but before I go any further I'd like to hear some opinons on whether learing a multi level count with a side count of aces is worth the trouble, will it be signifigantly better assuming I use the more advance system accuratley? please note the game available to me is an 8 deck game DS (max of 4 splits) S17 BJ pay 3:2 no resplit of aces. Please relay your practical experience, especially those that use a muti level count. Also if you find something wrong with what Im doing currently, let me know. Ive been winning at almost 1pct over all

True Count Rounded estimated players edge units required for 5% element
1 0.5% 240
1.5 1.0% 150
2 1.5% 110
2.5 2.0% 75
3 3.0% 55
3.5 3.5% 45
4 4.0% 38
4.5 4.5% 35
5.5 5.0% 32

Don’t bother. Any system that uses an ace side count is obsolete these days. It would be especially impractical for a shoe game. If you want to switch to a level 2 system then think about Zen or RAPC. Those are both very strong systems.

On the other hand, since you already know all of the numbers for the Uston Point Count, why switch? You’ve got a good system that is simple and very effective. All the trouble of learning a new system and new indices probably isn’t going to earn you that much more money. If your card counting skills are that sharp (and it sounds like they are) then look into other forms of Advantage Play. You can earn a lot more from other techniques than by switching systems.

I think Uston’s numbers for betting on multiple hands are a little off. It seems to conservative to me. Here's what I use:

I remember Schlesinger tried to reconcile Uston’s numbers with Wong and Snyder’s but couldn’t seem to find out where Uston’s numbers came from. Uston never mentioned the formula he used or how he derived it. I guess it is a mystery for the ages.
