TKO TC vs. HiLo TC

Has anyone done a sim to see what the correlation is between these two measurements? A scatter plot of HiLo TC vs. TKO TC would be interesting.

Wouldn't the difference be de minimis? If the KO running count is plus 2 with two decks remaining, then the KO True Count would be plus 3 (TC conversion taken from TKO spreadsheet). In HiLo, the running count would be plus 6 when the KO running count is plus 2 (because of the 4 count difference due to the unbalance). The HiLo True Count would be 6 divided by 2 decks (HiLo TC conversion), or plus 3, same as KO True Count. TC is TC. However, I don't think indexes necessarily convert, since HiLo does not count sevens, but KO does. Here's a copy of the TKO spreadsheet. View attachment Copy of TKO-clean.xls

The right way to true count KO is to simply start with an initial running count of (-4*decks) and then divide running count by decks remaining. This parallels how true count is figured in HiLo.

As to effectiveness, HiLo undervalues and KO overvalues a 7 so without going into some detailed analysis, in my estimation true counting either would be about equal.

aslan, good post. yes TC is TC. however, since TKO counts the 7, slightly different advantageous situations are "found" than TC HiLo. So there are minute differences. The indices, though, DO indeed change. For example, when you have a 12, 13, or 14, you now know some more information on if you will be getting some winning hands (a 19, 20, or 21) since the 7 is counted. For some indices, though, such as whether to double and 11, I would guess that the inclusion of the 7 doesn't add very much information, and the indices would be closer to the HiLo indices.

Yes, this is the correct way to do TKO, especially if you want to sim it. People should remember 2 things:

  1. This IRC is different from the KO "published" IRC. But Neutral * Decks (or -4 * Decks in KO) is necessary for correct TC calculations.
  2. Also, in this case it should be remembered that a "TKO TC" of -4 is like a 0 in HiLo, and the advantage will start at about TKO = -3 or -2. This may not be obvious to newbies.

About equal, but under a microscope TKO beats HiLo. zg
