Using friends for cover

I have some friends that will be going on a Vegas trip with me. None of them are APs or have any desire to be, but it got me thinking. Would there be some possible ways to use my non-counting, non-basic strategy playing friends for cover?

Please let me know your thoughts.

Probably the BEST thing you can do is have them get players' cards for you;so that you can play under their names later, after you've had enough winning sessions so that you believe YOUR name is starting to get hot. Don't underestimate the value of this.

perfect.

your good loyal friend is a powerful tool.
but make them a perfect tool.

talk to them,
laugh out loud with them,
have fun with them,
look at them,
drink with them,
play blackjack with them,

voila the perfect tool,
the perfect cover.

Thanks for all the replies.

Are there risks beyond getting barred from casino for doing this?

I was thinking I might be able to use them to wong into games too...have them sit down at a table and play and just stand behind them and socialize until the count gets high then decide to sit down and play a few rounds

I generally wouldn't recommend doing things like this especially if your friends know what you're doing. It'll turn into them raising their bets with you and one of two things happening usually: they lose their money and are mad at you, or the pit watching this go on and making it easier to spot you. Now if they don't know . . .

Deathclutch, that is what had me worried... I've tried to talk a few of them into learning, but they have pretty much said that its stupid and that IF I actually make money doing it I'll have the crap beat out of me by some casino thug lol.

The good news is there are a handful that don't know and hopefully I'll be able to use them to my advantage.

What usually happens after a period of time they will tag you as a counter and assume your friends are some part of a team play... (been there done that)

1. Get players cards in their names, and make sure they're OK with the idea of being barred (on paper) if it comes down to it. There are no further risk, as you asked, other than a barring.

2. You can wong in using them, but like DC said, make sure it doesn't turn into them raising their bets with you. I've played with friends at the table before and I just cautioned them to bet as they normally would—mostly flat-betting. Simply explain that raising their bets in a good count does not give them a higher probability of winning; in fact, the volatility created by betting big in high counts will actually increase their short-term risk. This is usually enough to get them to not worry about mimicking your bets.
