Hi y'all- just got back from my first trip to a US casino, went to one of the "better" ones in AC that ive read in many places uses 6 decks. So i sit down at one table during a shuffle, and start trying to make conversation with the dealer and pit boss. I ask a bunch of newbie questions (im no pro myself, but i like to seem even worse off than i actually am), and then the other dude at the table asks how many decks are in play. Before the dealer could open her mouth, the pit boss jumps in and asserts "8 decks. every game here is 8 decks." The dealer nods her head in agreement and adds "its because we used to offer 4 and 6 decks but there were too many counters." Now im never gonna write a book on deck estimation, but i believe im competent enough to be able to tell the difference between 6 and 8 decks, and there were most DEFINITELY 6 DECKS! This happened more than a couple of times with different dealers in different pits and in every case if the pit boss was near they would always jump in proclaiming that these were in fact 8 deck games, when i could clearly see they were 6. I was thinking maybe they want to try and discourage wanna-be counters from the games, but then wanna be counters are the ones that the casinos make a lot of their money from! and any decent counter would be able to tell the difference from 8 and 6 decks! sorry for the long post but this struck me as very very odd.. would love to hear what you guys think about this...
