when i read books it says you have %1 advantage or 2,3 etc...

Does that mean you have %1 advantage throughout the whole play with your card counting strategy?

or

Does that mean you have %1 advantage during that specific hand?

and around what TC do you need to be in an advantage situation.

im a beginner, just been studying, practicing and saving for when it really counts. any extra beginner tips would be appreciated

It can mean for your system and at a specific TC while playing.

A 1% advantage can be anywhere roughly from a TC1 to a TC4 depending on the rules of the game. Generally TC 3 seems about right.

If you play 200 rounds and won 101, lost=99 round-even money bets..
New money won=2 in 200 rounds..
money won per round=0.01=1%

Except you reworded what Sucker stated and now it's a bit misleading. Keep in mind that it's units won, not rounds won. The % of rounds won does not increase. The advantage comes from an increase in Blackjacks and more effective splits, double downs and (especially) insurance calls.

Talking about earnings based on rounds is not the right way to explain it imo. I'd stick to units since even with a 1% edge, our rounds won will be less than rounds lost in the long run.
