What Indices to Learn (an essay)

Yes. I just listed the plays. You will need software to generate the index numbers for those plays, based on the rules and penetration of the game you are playing, and the risk level you are comfortable with.

Using straight +EV generic index numbers for these plays is not the optimal approach.

My take on this:

If you are playing S17, learn the indicies for the H17 variations.
DD A7 vs 2
DD 11 vs A
DD A8 vs 6
Surr 15 vs A
Surr 17 vs A

Add:

Surr 15 vs 9 , X
Surr 88 vs X

Athough the Basic Strategy Surrenders are duplicated, 15vX and 16v9 are usually at zero. I wouldn't vary play with 16 vs X in no surr. games, its easy to spot counters. My rule of thumb for No LS is hit 2-card 16 vs X and stand 3+card 16 vs X.

Next thing on the list is not to raise the bet until you get a winner. DO NOT just 'index hop' your bet. Wait for a winner, then parlay, or increase. Reduce according to index.

My 2c worth

Do you mean the rules are the same but the point at which you apply them is different?
Yes, the plays are the same, but the index numbers change with each
counting system and the rules of the game you're playing.

You're catching on.
