When to start counting

#1
I have been playing BJ for a while now and I have BS down to a science and have recently started training myself to count. I go pretty often and play using only BS. I can count down a single deck in single and pairs pretty quickly and accurately. When should I start applying counting while out at the casinos?

I do practice online as well as other places but I really just enjoy going out the casinos and playing. I do it more for fun than money, realistically I dont go with the intentions of making money. While I would like to make money playing I dont go to the casino for that reason. eventually it would be nice to start making some money doing it which is why I was asking when would be a good time to impliment counting

im fairly new too. my idea is to get extremely good at counting and maybe even shuffle tracking. also i plan on having the advanced strategy memorized. all that before i hit the casino. cus when i hit the casino i dont HAVE to shuffle-track or even count right away. but it'll be tools for me to use when i feel im ready

id suggest being able to get through a deck in 25 seconds or less. i was told to even do it in 20 seconds before hitting a casino.

anyways, thats my view on it. rather than trying to use an unperfected technique and either getting caught and/or making the wrong moves

edit: ok well i guess all the stuff i just said only applies to when u plan on playing to make money

well i dont time myself going through the deck because well my mind works faster than my hands do and i can count down the deck with 100% accuracy as fast as I can flip the cards right now. what I started doing now was dealing out 3 hands plus a dealer hand and counting in pairs and playing as if I were playing at a table using BS. ive gotten pretty good at it but I still am making some errors(occasionally my count is off by 1 by the time I get through one deck) but im just rushing things a little bit. If I am really concentrated I do pretty well and pretty fast but my worries are once I get to the casino and try to do this I will have all the distractions of the casino and I dont want to seem too focused on the cards and get myself caught. so how would I know when im really ready to try and implement this without the worry of getting caught

The fact of the matter is hardly anyone gets booted for card counting alone. What gets you booted is spreading your bets too much and card counting. As long as you count with out moving your lips,a small spread will keep you under the radar.

instead of flipping cards over 1/2 at a time, flip the whole deck and hold it in your hand with the cards facing you. push the cards from one hand to the next with your thumb and you will see that you can physically move through a deck much faster. the motion i am talking about is as if you were holding a deck of cards and moving through it to find a certain card. make sense?

you will be ready when you can count down a deck in about 20 seconds. that will give you enough leeway in a casino environment. 30 seconds is really pushing it and not giving you much of a buffer. you want to be able to glance at a table full of cards and know the count in 1-2 seconds. practice spreading 6-7 played-out hands on a table (dont look at the cards really as you do this) and then just SCAN the table from left to right or right to left real quick. see how much your eyes pick up and your brain processes. get this process down to a second or two, without missing any cards. then you will be ready and be able to count a table without really staring at anything.

just fyi, you can start counting from anywhere in a shoe but it essentially equates to bad penetration, depending on how far into the shoe you start counting.
