Where do you sit?

I'm pretty new to counting so maybe some more experienced players could answer the following question for me:

When you're counting, which position would you sit at in the following two games and why?

1. Single deck, dealt face down
2. 4 or 6 deck shoe dealt face up

I've always tried to sit as close to 3rd base as possible but after giving this some thought, if a table already has a few players, maybe I should sit more towards 1st base.

Thanks in advance.

If you are new to counting avoid first base. When I started counting I hit a quick dealer while sitting at first base and had trouble keeping up with the count. The dealer would be looking at me for my decision and I would still be looking at the other end of the table counting the cards. The pressure than caused me to lose my count. I found at the start sit in the middle of the table and that way you get a good look at everyones cards and still have lots of time to play your hand comfortably. After a few sessions your counting will pickup and you can sit anywhere without thinking about it.
