Would u consider this taking a shot?

Hi everybody

new to the forum here (been lurking awhile and thought I'd finally sign up). Anyway I was at a table today absorbing a beating, and at the beginning of a shoe the dealer failed to burn a card. Right as I realized he was not going to burn one, I was tempted to push a very high bet out, and then claim the hand was bogus if I lost. I decided not to as I don't like to cause a scene, and won the hand anyway. I was wondering if anyone else has tried this and if so how did the casino handled it? This place usually rules in favor of the player, but I go there frequently and didn't want to do anything that would draw negative attention.

Burning a card is a procedural thing. So the dealer screwed up. I sincerely doubt they'd rule the hand dead.

"Taking a shot" is when YOU do something to cause the dealer error. The move you were talking about is nothing more than taking advantage of a dealer's mistake.

I agree with paddywhack in that once all the card came out you probably wouldn't be able to get them to call it a dead hand; but if you can time it right, there IS a way to make this work: As soon as you get your 1st card, if it's an ace or a ten, keep quiet. If it's NOT; IMMEDIATELY and before any more cards are dealt, exclaim to the dealer "YOU DIDN'T BURN A CARD!". This DOES work most of the time.

When is the card burned

I am having trouble remembering because it is a triviality. Do you bet before or after the burn of the first card.

I would certainly call that shot taking.

Pretty sure this will only work if you're at first base.

Speaking of burning a card, I noticed there are several places in Vegas now that do not burn a card when a new dealer comes in. I find this to be very player friendly.

Ditto! You have enough information with your first card. (Although I'd accept a 9 too.)

It will absolutely work at 1st base if you call it right away (no other cards are dealt) - most of time ;) Its less likely to work if more cards are dealt. Most places are unlikely to burn a hand or shift around cards, as others have mentioned its a procedural discretionary thing according to places I've seen this happened.

Don't worry OP, ploppies try to pull this all the time too :) But usually way too late after they see both their cards.

If it's a nine and you're in the last spot, count the table quickly before making the decision :p

If it's a 9, don't make a stink about it, in the hope that she'll do it again in a later shoe. There are many moves in this game that only work ONCE per dealer. Make it count.
