Is Microgaming safe to play?

There is no UK enforcement action on that licence. Microgaming’s own former software licence has been withdrawn from the register, which is what you would expect once the games business moved across, so the account to check today is Games Global’s.

What Microgaming makes

For most of thirty years Microgaming was a slots company on a large scale, and the famous titles are still in the catalogue that Games Global now runs: Mega Moolah, the progressive jackpot that set a Guinness world record for the largest online slot payout in 2015, along with Immortal Romance, Thunderstruck II und Book of Oz. It never made these games alone; a network of independent studios built content for its Quickfire platform, and that whole arrangement is what changed hands in 2022.

Microgaming and blackjack

This is where the Microgaming name differs from the pure slots houses: it sits over one of the largest software blackjack catalogues in the business. The Gold Series alone runs to Classic Blackjack Gold, Atlantic City Blackjack Gold, Vegas Single Deck, Vegas Strip and Vegas Downtown Blackjack, Double Exposure and Multi-Hand Blackjack, most of them in single and multi-hand forms. There was a live dealer arm too, built as OnAir Entertainment, whose very first table was a live blackjack in November 2021. Keep the date in mind, though: the Gold Series tables and the live studio both went to Games Global in the 2022 sale and are distributed under its name now. The company behind the games

Microgaming was founded on the Isle of Man in 1994 and is one of the oldest names in online gambling, credited with some of the first real-money casino software. For most of the next three decades it was a games company through and through: hundreds of slots, the Mega Moolah progressive, a large poker network, and later a live casino. That era has now closed on every front. The poker network shut down in May 2020, the games business was sold to Games Global in 2022, and the company that remained renamed itself Apricot and stepped back from making games altogether.
