    Ace 5

Ace-5 can be easier for some, but learning KO or HiLo is not that much more difficult, and yield much better results. The harder part of card counting is not so much the counting, but keeping the count with the distractions in a casino, not to mention while playing your hand (which is why the...

I just want to second this suggestion!

Variations to BS using ace five count

The book gives a 'exit strategy' on page 120. Use that, you will improve your edge to about 0.5%! (Playing ~66% of hands, assuming you have to wait for the same table to shuffle up... i.e. worst case)

    Cvcx?

I concur. You will want them all eventually anyway.

Variations to BS using ace five count

The ace5 wongs out at a count of -6 (playing 70% of hands). The knockout rookie number you quote is for play all.

Variations to BS using ace five count

Ace/5 PE is about 0.05 I concur: Not worth trying to find indexes for!

Card Counting for the Recreational Player?

Assuming rather typical (poor) rules, 6D H17 DAS RSA, 75% pen, here is what I get out of CVdata for some options for break even or better with low spreads and wonging OUT only. I assume you start at the beginning of the shoe. HiLo count, minimal indexes (Insurance at +3, Stand on 16 v T 0, 15 v...

Card Counting for the Recreational Player?

Thanks for the link.. I am liking that approach. Lots of variants to consider along those lines. Back to the sims :)

Card Counting for the Recreational Player?

This is a good point, however I do enjoy academic discussions anyway. In the instant case lets assume this hypothetical 'recreational' player plays at the $10 level four times a month for a 3 hour session each time. At 80 hands an hour, he is paying about $60 a month long term. (Standard...

Card Counting for the Recreational Player?

My original post used the TC (wong out at TC<=-1). To get play percentage up, I also tried TC <= -2, that plays ~ 70% of hands, and does better then break even in a S17 game. In H17 it loses (-0.1%) but not so badly. You can make it up and get back to even by giving up on flat betting and...

Card Counting for the Recreational Player?

I simmed 6D S17, DAS, RSA, 75% pen using CVdata, starting at new shoes and wonging out at RC <= -4, flat betting, I get player advantage +0.25% (IBA%), but you only play 44% of hands. However, I am new to CVdata and might be doing something wrong. If I change that to wong out at RC <= -6...

Card Counting for the Recreational Player?

I looked at this briefly... is it really that much easier then HiLo? I always found the primary challenge in card counting is remembering the count, not the actual counting. I will have to look into it further.

Card Counting for the Recreational Player?

I was wondering if there is a card counting method that is suitable for person who just plays blackjack for fun, but would like to do so as cheaply as possibly. The goal is to reduce the house edge to zero. This player is just looking to enjoy a bit of blackjack, not make money necessarily...

    Wong out by depth

I just started playing with CVCX and was trying to use the Wong by depth feature. Here is a simple question: Are the numbers the number of decks IN (i.e. discard tray) or the number of decks left? Does the program check only at those points, or does it interpolate between these points? If it...

    Color of Blackjack

I also learned a lot from CoBJ, but are there any other good sources of info on TKO (besides forum posts here)?
