I would like if when a dealer is giving me advice on a hand, it is the correct advice. :laugh:

I like it when a dealer doesn't pause for more than a full second when calculating math (eg, soft hands).
I like it when the dealer asks ONE TIME "Are you sure?" on an unusual play.
I like it when I am dealt an Ace and the dealer says something like, "Good luck on the Ace." It subtly makes players aware that the dealer hasn't any control of the outcomes, and it's extra-polite (ie, players have a better time).
I like it when dealers explain things to confused players, as it's helpful. Not everyone knows basic strategy (let alone the little details), you know.
In general, I like a dealer to earn his tip with helpfulness. By the way, I've not tipped before simply because I forgot, and I really felt bad about it. Where I'm from, waitresses are the only people we tip. Sorry to the Dealer Community.

yes there is something i would like to know. this may sound like nonsense and it probably is. i percieve the attitudes of various dealers as individual persons. most seem as if they are hoping for the players that things will turn out well for them. i know that a dealer has no way of consciously knowing whether the particular action a player is going to take is going to result in the hand being winner or loser for the player. also i know that a veteran dealer has seen thousands and thousands of hands played out and the results there of. i realize that some dealers are proficient blackjack players and others never play the game. so here is the point and question. i often wonder two things about the dealer. i wonder if subconsciously they may have a sense as to how a hand is going to turn out winner or loser for the player. i sometimes catch myself watching the dealer's mannerisms to see if i can catch a tell from their body language to see if they subconsciously perceive me comming out winner or loser. i've also noticed that often a dealer will be reaching for my chips even before she has seen my final card drawn or seen her final card. do dealers have a conscious sense of how the hand is going to go? what say ye Mr. or Ms. Walrus?

here is what i like in a dealer. for the most part i prefer they keep quiet. i don't want them to try and strike up a conversation with me or other players. i do enourmously enjoy a dealer that has a good story to tell however. i could care less one way or the other if the dealer can advise me or anyone else with regards to how to play a hand. i do want the dealer to be proficient in every rule with regard to the game or at least be ready to ask the pit boss's advice if there is a question. i prefer dealers that obviously care about the players having good results but that do not whine or moan when the player loses a hand. i like for a dealer to wish me good luck and for real mean it. i like a dealer that can percieve that i want or need to be dealt to slower. most of us counters want a fast game but i'm one that needs it a bit slower than most for one on one play with the dealer. i sometimes take a lot of time to make decisions on my play. i'm older and that is just the way it is. i don't like it when a dealer displays impatience over my slowness or that of other players. i like in a dealer a sense of comoradory and genuine friendlyness

I just remembered the reason I wanted to post here. But to answer the questions. I already know B.S, and I wish I didnt(explain later).
Its werid, sometimes I would have an 2, and I say out loud, 3, 9 then picture, and 3/3 times soo far, it comes exactly that. I do generally get a feeling when people are going to bust, but I havnt been a dealer long and thats usually because they dont play B.S.
My experience as a dealer: To date, I havnt found one person that plays perfect B.S. I've seen all of the following more than once:
-Hit on soft 20 and recieving an A when I have a face card
-Splitting 5's against my Tens
-Splitting Tens' against any card
-Never and always doubling against anything (double on 9, 10, 11 only)
-Never split, including aces
-3 Blackjacks in one hand (not really anything impressive)
-Hitting Hard 18 against my 6 and reciving an ace, then hitting again and recieve a 2
-We have this side bet in Australia called "perfect pairs", 5 to 1 if first 2 cards are same in rank but not in colour or suit, 10 to 1 if same suit/rank and 30 to 1 for exact same card. I've seen one person win 30 to 1 '7 times in 30 mins.
-People wanting even money against my face card(you cant)
Anyways the thing that annoys me is that I can barely stand watching people play incorrectly. And when I ask them are they sure, the response is usually something like "dont even f**king ask me that again, of course im sure" or "yes *taps table for another card on 16 vs 6*, the then whole table loses because of that guy (although in theory it dosent matter), and the whole tabling abuses the shit out of me for pulling a 21.
In general, I want people to win, unless they got overboard. I hate players who have a hand like 13 vs T, and EVERYTIME they will say "gimme a 8" or "8 please". This isnt a resturant, you get what you are given.
I need to learn to stop talking to players as well, if they want to hit that 14 vs 4 everytime, so be it.

We'd like to see good penetration! Speed is always a plus too.
Two things i like to see in a dealer. one deal with a consistant rythem from start to finish. two unless instructed otherwise dont call out " check change" everytime a player moves up in color.

I like a dealer that is good handling the players cards, but just a little sloppy handling the hole card.
Where do you work? what area, you know if its in the west, we could get together before your shift and make up the rules as we go along.
Sounds like me, its part of my ploppie cover. Most important thing is the pen. Prefer dealer who likes to talk because I talk a lot at the table usually.

For questionable plays, until a player is established as a maniac, possibly repeating their move to them when asking if they're sure, with slight[/] emphasis on the weird part "You want to hit versus a six?" would be useful in case the player has made an arithmetic mistake.
My question for the dealer: how much do you really root for the players, and how much do you root for the house, out of some sense of competitiveness?

What I like to see is the cards before they go in the discrard tray.
When a player busts, the dealer has just put the last card out and with the same dealing motion, sweeps and removes the cards to the discard. If only for just a second, spread the cards so they can be seen a second longer.
The remaining (players) cards can be seen during the time the dealer plays his hand out. No problem. Although, when picking up the rest of the table when the dealer doesn't play his hand (ie. stands on T,T) take your time. There is no rush, the cards can't get up and escape.:laugh:
I guess this means slow down when possible and give the counters a chance! Did I just say that? :joker:
As the others stated, a SINCERE "good luck" on an Ace is a good touch. Or upon entering the game and before we are seperated from our money!
Conversation is a good thing. Inbetween rounds and during shuffles. Not during play!
One reminder on incorrect play is sufficient. Especially if it correct BS. Unless your counting also and know something the player doesn't know!
Some players can't add and remember BS at the same time!!

I don't think players have much to ask for in a dealer. Just one that is courteous and efficient. The same can't be said for the players, who are more often rude, contemptuous, blame-directing morons. No one forced them to put their money down, take that hit, or cut where they cut. And yet its the dealers fault.
I have no sympaty for a guy that doubles down on a 6 against an A. I SAW THIS YESTERDAY, and he was constantly cussing.
From an AP's view, of course I would like good pen, and perfect speed for me to count, etc, but as a player I just want a nice, effective dealer.

Im just about to go to work, but where I deal, its mainly CSMs. When it is hand shuffled, (trust me, no card counter's here), people complian why we dont use machines so speed up the game 
I fully root for the players, I dont care about the house at all. The only time I root for the house is when I am constantly abused by the drunk who keeps doing stupid plays.

Tonight, I'll try being more professsinal in my job, I realised I've been slightly dodgey with card placement and chip work.
We have to call out "color/cash change" everytime, part of procedures. The ones who dont, well, should be. Do all players find this irratating? Thanks for the replies guys

Oh, and just to throw something out there for the newbies, sometimes the players' hand gestures bet placement for splitting and doubling-down can be confusing, specially since I think I've seen dealers like it seperate ways.
When players aren't doing this right, I recommend explaining to them the desired mechanics in a soothing kindergarten-style voice. I've seen dealers get a little bossy with this sometimes, and it can scare away the newbies (like my Mom, for instance).

Another thing I found is that alot of player will not see the minimum bet sign, and put down less than that, which is fine, and then after the dealer corrects them, they applogise. Applogy isnt really needed, we're just letting you people know. Tonight was quiet (monday night/morning) so didnt get many drunks, but I tried to care less about people making stupid plays.
Oh another thing, say you were playing a $10 minimum, you double down and win, do you prefer to get paid 2x5 + 2x5 or 4x5 (one stack)?
