When you guys are determining how much profit you made or any losses do you usually do so in terms of units or dollars? Is either better than the other really, or does it make much of a difference which one you follow?

Doesn't make any difference to me. Units = Dollars. At the end of the day I usually tally the actual money I've won or lost. But when I'm playing I never think of it as money.... just Units.

Dollars are more relevant because units can have more or less relative value depending on what dollar amount they're associated with. For example, two card counters compare their results in terms of units won per hours played. Both players spread 1-16 units, but player A is a nickel player and player B is a black chip player. Their unit results will differ wildly because of game quality/availability, number of hands played, heat, and so on. Units are a good way to focus on proper strategy and bankroll management, but not all units are created equal!

What about when you play different units for different games? When I play shoe games, I play a $25 unit spreading 1-16. When I play double deck games, I spread $75-$400. (same max bet) So is my unit in the DD game $75, spreading 1-5+, or am I playing a $25 unit spreading 3-16?
This is something I have been thinking about since I started playing more double deck games this year. I mean, doesn't effect the amount you win, but just for record keeping sake.

I wish I were a record keeping kind of person, but I hardly ever write anything down. For blackjack, I keep pretty close track for the trip, to gauge how I'm doing from session to session, but my long term record keeping is practically nonexistent. If I were keeping long term records, I would want to keep it both ways, dollars and units, for different purposes.
I call that a 1-5ish spread on the DD. Unless when you run your sims and do your pre-play (foreplay? :laugh
analysis you happen to use a 3-16 spread. Since i venture to say you don't, i would say count it as 1-5ish so that you can compare actual results to expected results (in terms of units won/lost, sd in units, etc). Of course the dollar results are also tracked for liquidity, taxes, etc purposes.

Jason, do you find with these spreads that you to have to wong a lot on the shoes and keep sessions short but on the DD you can play to your heart's content? Just curious - let me know...

Since I started my career playing mostly shoe games in AC, I have always been a big wonger. Short sessions wonging out pretty religously at TC -1. (may go to -1.5 with limited tables) As for DD games, I am still relatively new to playing them, but have played them much more since I moved (parttime) to vegas 5 months ago, but am still fine tuning my plan. The 1-5 spread is pretty tolerated, but it seems it's the max bet that draws attention. That why I try to keep my max bet below the $500 threshold. I still play short sessions and wong out of DD games. Wong out at slightly higher -2 TC though.
